The chimes resound, a sonorous peal,
And prove to us that time is real.

Thus, stirred from inertia, we fight
And shudder at the blindness of sight.

        Claws lacquered in blood cleave,
Tearing us asunder from our memories.

The cannibalizing of spirit, in short,
Is a most lonely and miserable sport.
