Alana Fowlis had just graduated from college a few months ago and was anxious to start writing her first novel. While she had been in college she had inherited a house from her grandmother on her mother's side of the family. It was a spacious three bedroom single story old brick house with hard wood floors, and spacious rooms. Alana didn't have much furniture or things to fill the home with, so it seemed empty still even after she moved in. She had converted one of the bedrooms into an office space, and filled it with her books and desk where she used her laptop to write. She had her bed in the nearest bedroom to it so she could get to it to write quickly if she was inspired from her dreams. The living room was sparsely furnished with a futon, a comfortable chair, and a modestly sized TV in a humble entertainment center. She wasn't thrilled with the kitchen though since it used natural gas, and that made her a bit uncomfortable. Since she was a bit afraid she was going to blow her self up with it one of these days if she wasn't careful. But she had to admit it was cheaper than electricity from what she had heard.

All in all her settling in was going well, but the writing wasn't going as smoothly as she had hoped. It just wasn't coming as smoothly as she had hoped it would. She would get started on what seemed like a good idea but soon enough run into a road block. Then she wouldn't know where to go with the idea and would give up and start on a new idea until finally she was, so frustrated she had to take a break. Finally after days and days of this she decided to look into the library of books her grandmother had left her that she had added to her own collection, and see if she could find any divine inspiration there. She found that her grandmother had a lot of old fairy tales some she hadn't even heard of before. She was fascinated by them all and how much they related to old Wiccan legends in some ways. She read for hours and hours till she finally had to stop and get dinner cause of her stomach growling and noticing that the full moon was out.

She went out into the kitchen and looked in the fridge to see what she wanted to make for dinner. She had always had a fairly slim figure despite eating whatever she wanted, and having a big appetite. Alana took out a steak from the fridge, then got a couple potatoes from under the cupboards, as well as a can of corn. She fried the steak up slowly as she made twice baked potatoes, and boiled the can of corn. She ate slowly wishing she could come up with a solid novel, and feeling somewhat lonely. She finished and threw the dishes in the dishwasher, and went back to reading the books her grandmother had left her till she fell asleep.

When she woke up the next day the outside of the house seemed vastly different. She wasn't quite sure how yet, but she sensed something had changed. She wasn't quite sure what just that between the time she had gone to sleep, and the time she had woken up something had changed. She walked around the house cautiously seeing if it was anything in there, but found nothing out of place or even moved an inch. She walked out onto her porch cautiously and knew at once by looking outside what had changed.

All around the house what had once been fairly cleared out land now stood what appeared to be an ancient forest with huge trees, and very large mushrooms. There was also huge shoots of grass everywhere, and the sounds of wilderness were all around her though they didn't sound all that normal to her. Some of them sounded normal, but more of them sounded more mystical to her overall. She wasn't sure what to think, but she went back inside fairly quickly. She locked the door though she wasn't convinced it would do much good, and went back to her study to try and find some answers in the books in there. She thought maybe her grandmother's journal might have some answers for her, so she went to check that first.

She found her grandmother's journal right where she had left it next to her laptop on her desk. She opened it to find the words on the page glowing softly. She scanned the pages from the beginning carefully finding a tale of fantasy that she hadn't noticed before. She found out that at random times the house transported itself into the land of fairies as best as she could decipher what her grandmother meant in the pages. But she still wasn't sure exactly what that meant. Though she figured the only way she would find out was to do a bit of exploring of this world on her own. So she packed up her laptop with her grandmother's journal in her solar powered messenger bag, and got something to drink out of the fridge and some lunch. Then she set strode cautiously out the door locking it behind her, and set out for what she figured would be an afternoon of exploring. How wrong she was about how long she would be gone.
