The Striking Bomb

A bomb strikes on me

Right here, on my head.

As I feel my body go numb

Nothing felt, nothing said.

I stood motionless, staring

Into the grayness of the day.

Strange it felt to me because

The sun was up, the weather gay.

At first it was nothing

That I could feel,

But slowly, the pain spread

From my heart up to the heel.

It was a pain that

No medicine could ever cure

What caused the pain in me,

About that I’m not sure.

As I stood, falling to bits

My shreds spreading in the air

I’d forgotten all the luxuries, the problems,

What was wrong and what was fair.

It took me time to realize,

It wasn’t them at fault,

It’s me who is stupid enough

So, I cried, tears of salt.

And now, I don’t know what to do,

Or hear, or think, or say,

Hence, I spread the mat, wear my hijab,

And to Allah alone I pray.
