A Little Science Poem

Heating, cooling, vaporization, and condensing,

They go hand in hand in the world of physics, and can be pretty baffling.

From a solid to liquid or liquid to gas,

Things can go pretty fast,

All you need is 2,300 or 340 joules per gram and things start changing.

Going from water to steam, to give one of many examples,

The water usually is boiling with lots of bubbles,

The water heats up to at least 100 degrees Celsius,

But remember to be cautious,

The steam is hot, and rises up into the air due to convection, and all its gaggles.

Something mistaken for conduction is radiation, both are very opposite.

Conduction is when the atoms of an object touch or collide, like your hand and a hot pot,

There’s not touching involved in radiation,

And it’s not much of an action,

Radiation involves electromagnetic waves. The sun is an example, you can’t touch it, but it’s still hot.

Convection deals with air currents, hot air rises and cool air stays low,

Like when there’s a fire in the fireplace downstairs, the hot air rises and the cool air is down below,

There’s also no touching involved in this,

So don’t go amiss,

With all of these different stages of matter and transfer of heat. Some deal with touching, waves, and some with air-flow.
