a/n: the next chapter might be a few days because i still have to outline what's going to happen in this story, at least for the next couple of chapters, but i thought i would go ahead and post this one for you. it might be slightly slow and mundane to begin with, but bare with me, i have some interesting stuff coming...enjoy!

Chapter 1 Back at Privet Drive
Harry looked glum as he departed from Kings Cross Station with the Dursley's. He had not been looking forward to spending this summer with them, but he was not yet of age and apparently had little say in where he could stay. He had to stay with them. It was inevitable. Harry accepted the fact after his Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, the greatest wizard of the age, had explained to him in his fifth year the reason. He needed to stay there for protection. His aunt and he were the only two people in which there was a trace of his mother's blood. This was important because his mother had sacrificed herself for Harry when he had been a baby and this sacrifice had provided him with a protection against the dark wizard who had tried to kill him. Hence he understood the importance of going to stay there, however that didn't mean he had to like it. At least he wouldn't have to stay there all summer. In a few weeks he would be going to stay with his new guardian. Remus Lupin.

It was a hot, sticky day in Little Whining, Surrey. The weather had been extremely pleasant since the beginning of summer. People could be seen in the streets talking away happily to each other, people in town centers could be seen shopping until they dropped and children could be heard playing endlessly until the break of dawn. Privet Drive was known for its loud, boisterous residents but it was far too hot for people to get all worked up and bothered today. Everyone had retreated to the safety of their homes, where there was less chance of them getting too dehydrated or sunburned. Well, everyone except a skinny teenage boy who thought it much safer to be outside, out of the way of his Aunt and Uncle. This way he didn't have to deal with them any more than he had to.
He was lying on the lawn of number four, beneath the shade of a tree, reading a book about quidditch. The thought of quidditch reminded him of the deal he struck with Malfoy and all the events that happened shortly thereafter. Funny enough Gryffindor still held the Quidditch cup because the last game of the season was cancelled and a winner was never decided. Harry sighed and resigned that if they were going to have quidditch this year that he would let Ron take over the captaincy; he really was the best person for the job anyways. "That's if we're even allowed to play this year..." Harry said, slamming the book shut. His thoughts returned to Voldemort, and he wondered if his last year was going to be anything close to normal. He highly doubted it since Voldemort had been becoming more active, especially over the last few years. Just over two years ago Voldemort had returned to full power. Already he has tried to kill Harry more times than he cares to remember but has so far failed in his quest. Harry knew that one day soon he would have to fight Voldemort on his own until the death of one of them but the longer it could wait the better.
Harry pulled himself of the ground and brushed all the grass of him that had stuck to his clothes. He looked across the road and saw Mrs. Figg opening her windows, letting in some fresh air. Seeing her reminded Harry of the wizarding world. He briefly wondered who might be watching him right now, but he shook his head, and eventually decided he didn't care as he went back into the smallest bedroom
