Greetings few readers of this story! I've been mostly working on my other story, A World Gone Mad, but I had most of this chapter written and decided to round it off and post it - this is the start of my nice little twist to the story. If anyone is reading, hope you enjoy! And if you want to let me know how much you enjoyed it, comment or vote! Thanks!

Nick sighed wearily as he flopped down on the couch in his living room. He didn’t know what to do about Gemma. He didn’t know what to do to make it better. And he did want to make it better. At least his brother Chris was visiting for the weekend from where he went to college at NYU. Might help him take his mind off things. But then again Nick probably wasn’t very good company at the moment.

“Nick, what’s up?” Chris asked, sitting down next to him.

            “Nothing. You?”

“Oh, come on, I know something’s wrong.”

            “It’s this girl.”

“Oh.” Chris said, grinning. “And what’s wrong with her?”

“We broke up, she doesn’t want to talk to me anymore.”

            “What did you do?”

            “I cheated on her.”

Chris’s eyebrows rose. “And then she broke up with you?”

“I didn’t mean to hurt her so badly.”

“Nick, you cheated on her, how is that not supposed to hurt her?”

Nick was quiet. “I don’t know. I can’t explain it. I don’t know why I did it. I wish I hadn’t. I would give anything to go back in time and not have done it.”

“Have you tried talking to her?”

“Yes! She doesn’t want to hear it.”

            “Who is this girl?”

“Gemma Wallace. You don’t know her, she moved here this year from England.”

“And she broke up with you?”

“Yeah. And I would give absolutely anything for her to forgive me.”

            “What’s so extraordinary about her?”

Nick was quiet for a minute. “She’s beautiful. Stunningly gorgeous. She has dark brown hair, the most amazing eyes you’ve ever seen in your life, the longest legs, she’s tall, with an amazing body that looks effortless, and she usually wears these really high heels. But her eyes are incredible. They’re this blue-purple-grey colour. But she’s a different kind of beautiful, a grown-up beautiful, not like other girls here. She’s English. She moved here this year from London, and her mother is part French, so she speaks fluent French. She’s just different. She loves opera. She has good taste in normal music, but she loves opera. She’s an incredible dancer, and she’s a photographer. She doesn’t really fit in here. Which is really unpredictable and can be frustrating, but generally its just interesting and can be funny.”

He sighed wistfully. “I miss her.”

Chris was surprised to hear his little brother talk that way. “Anything I can do to help?”
