Chapter Ten

All the first years walked up the steps of Hogwarts, Ron, Harry, and Chloe in the lead. As they continued to climb up the steps, they saw a woman dressed in black. She smiled at us.

"Welcome to Hogwarts," she said. "Now, in a few moments you will walk through these door and join your classmates. But before you can, you shall be sorted into your Houses. There are Griffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Now while you're here, you're house will be like your family. Your triumphs will earn you points, and your rule breaking will lose you points. At the end of the year, the house with the most points will earn the House Cup. The sorting ceremony will begin momentarily." the woman said, then left the room.

"It's true then, what everyone was saying on the train." a voice said. Chloe, Harry, and Ron turned there heads to see who had spoken.

"Harry Potter and Chloe Johnson are at Hogwarts." a boy with very blonde hair said. He approached the three, two huge kids walking behind him as if they were his body guards. He stopped in front of them.

"This is Crabbe and this is Goyle." the boy said, introducing his friends. The blonde looked at Chloe, a smirk on his face.

"And I'm Malfoy." he said and grabbed Chloe's hand.

"Draco Malfoy." he said and kissed it, causing everyone to whisper in surprise and Chloe to blush madly. Harry's face began to turn red as well, but not from flattery. From jealousy. Draco winked at Chloe as he set her hand down, her face turning an even deeper shade of red. Ron tried to hide his chuckling. Draco glared at him.

"Think my name is funny, do you? I don't even need to ask for yours. Your red hair, freckles, and old clothes say it all. You're a Weasley." Draco spat. He looked over to Harry and Chloe.

"You'll soon find out that some wizard families are better than others, Ms. Johnson and Mr. Potter. You don't want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there." he said and extended his hand to Chloe while giving her a nice smile.

"I think we can tell the wrong sort on our own, thanks." Harry said as he stood between Malfoy and Chloe defensively. Chloe thought it was cute that Harry wanted to let Malfoy know that she was off-limits to Draco, even though the blondie was kind of cute. Chloe slowly grabbed Harry's hand without anyone noticing. The only person who noticed was Draco, an angry expression on his face.

The woman came back and led them into a grand hall filled with four tables. People were sitting at the tables and watching the first years closely as they walked down the isle. Chloe looked up and so did Harry as they noticed the ceiling. It looked exactly like the night sky. As they approached the front of the room, Chloe noticed a strange looking hat sitting on a stool. It was brown and dirty.

"Now, before we begin, Professor Dumbledore would like to say a few words." the woman said. An old man stood up from a table in the front of the room. He had a long beard that was even longer than Hagrid's. And it was pure white. Chloe was too busy looking around the room to listen to what the professor had to say.

"When I call your name," the woman said when the professor was finished. "You will come forth, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you shall be sorted into your houses."

"Hermione Granger." Hermione walked slowly up to the hat and sat down on the stool. The woman placed the hat on her head.

"Gryffindor!" the hat shouted. People from the Gryffindor table shouted happily as Hermione hopped off the stool and skipped to the Gryffindor table.

"Draco Malfoy." Draco sat on the bench.

"Slytherin!" the hat shouted before it had even touched Malfoy's head. People cheered as Malfoy smirked and hopped off of the bench.

"Susan Bonds." a girl walked up to the stool. Harry looked around and saw a man dressed in black sitting at the same table as Dumbledore. As they made eye-contact, Harry's scar began to hurt and he pressed his hand against it.

"Harry, what's wrong?" Ron asked him.

"Nothing." Harry said quickly.

"Ronald Weasley." Ron's hands began to shake. Chloe patted him on the back and gave him a big smile. He smiled back, a little more confidence in himself, and walked over to the stool. The hat was placed on his head. After a second, it shouted, "Gryffindor!" Three boys from the Gryffindor table stood up and happily hollered loudly. They were obviously Ron's brothers.

"Harry Potter." Harry's hand tightened on Chloe's. She gave him a reassuring smile and he slowly walked up to the hat. It was placed on his head. The crowd was whispering and muttering as Harry's name was mentioned. Chloe could see that Harry was saying something, but only the hat could hear him.

"Gryffindor!" the hat shouted. Ron shouted happily as a smile appeared on Harry's face. He hopped down and went to go sit next to Ron.

"Chloe Johnson." the whole crowd gasped. People were talking more than they had when Harry's name was spoken. All the teachers stood up and gasped in shock, many put their hands over their mouths in complete and utter dismay. Chloe slowly walked up and sat down. She looked over at Ron and Harry. Harry smiled and Ron gave her a thumbs up. As the hat was lowered, it flinched.

"A lot of courage, I see. Very smart, very brave, a lot of talent. You should most definitely go to Slytherin." the hat whispered to her.

"No, please no. Not Slytherin." she begged quietly.

"Are you sure? Your parents were Slytherin." the hat told her. She didn't care. She continued to beg not to be in Slytherin.

"No? Better be....GRYFFINDOR!!" cheers erupted from the crowd, clapping and roars of happiness burst through the air. Harry smile happily while Draco just groaned sadly. Chloe jumped down from her seat and sprinted happily to the Gryffindor table.
