Prologue

 Harper could still smell the blood.

The scent wafted over the sea, salty and fresh. She breathed it in, sighing with contempt as it filled her with strength.

"You know it had to be done," Chelsea said from behind her.

Harper  turned to look at her. Chelsea's blonde hair was floating in the wind, her tan was flawless, her eyes a sparkling, hypnotizing green.

And it was worth it, Harper reminded herself. Immortality, flawless beauty... Any girl would kill for it.

"I know," Harper said. She ran a hand through her thick, wavy aubern hair. Her fingers slid through it like silk.

Penn appeared from behind Chelsea. "Can you sense her?" she asked, turning her brown eyes to the outline of the dark cove ahead of them.

Harper nodded. "She's unlike anything I've ever seen before."

"Then what are we waiting for?" Chelsea asked. She was a new addition to the group and din't understand fully what Harper and Penn were doing.

Harper turned her eyes to Chelsea. "Oh, honey," she simpered. "We're waiting for her to come to us."
