REALITY
It was raining.
When Liam knocked on Rhea's door, his clothes were soaked through and she could see the pain in his eyes.
Gently, she grabbed her closest friend's hand and led him to her bathroom, where she piled some of her brother's clothes that she had stolen on the toilet seat and turned the water on hot.
"Showers are better after rain," she told him carefully. "I'll be in my bedroom. I'm going to set up."
Fifteen minutes later Liam was fully dressed with wet hair on Rhea's bed, her laptop set up with the first Hobbit movie.
As Rhea pressed play, Liam wrapped his arm around her. "Thank you, Rhea," he said, sounding choked. She didn't reply, only cuddling deeper into Liam. Tears built in his eyes.
"It's better if you let them out," Rhea advised quietly.
Liam kissed her head, and then salty water dropped down his cheeks.
They didn't talk, just watched and cuddled.
It was sad, but neither person had been more comfortable in their lives.
