*In my English class we're currently studying war poetry. Today we had to write a poem based on a war picture, with 3 stanzas- look, sound and feel. This is what I came up with, though by the last stanza I wasn't paying as much attention to the structure and more just writing what I thought fitted :P The picture I wrote about is on the right btw. I hope you like it <3
Row after row
Not a stone out of place
The headstones rise
From the blood-drenched soil
A pituresque image
Of white picket fences
Overshadowed by towering walls
Of woodland
Silent, mute
The sound of a bird
The roar of a car
A rare thing to hear
For if there be a sound
A commotion at all
It is but a whispher
Nothing can be heard
Save the wailing of the dead
Alone
In the country of the deceased
No life is found
No life that lingers
In the cold clutches of a grave
There is only time to shed one tear
Hesitantly they come
And hesitantly they go
So the sleeping may stay at rest
