-Ahmed -

Cars were parked haphazardly in the compound, making it hard for me to park.

I decided to do what everybody else did, just kill the engine without parking properly.

I stayed in the car for sometime contemplating wether to go in or wait untill the women are asleep...if they ever did.

My cousin Demi is getting married next week and the house have been bursting with pre-wedding activities all through the week. Most of my family members have arrived from various parts of the country. The house is full to the brim and my grand parents could not have been more proud.

After several minutes have elapsed, I decided to go in,after all, it doesn't look like the house will quiet down anytime soon.

As soon as I stepped into the house I heard a deliberately slow, deep voice call my name, which made me stop right on my track.

"Finally! My son is back."

"Salamu alaikum, aunty khudy."

I try to think of an excuse to run up to my room in other to avoid an unending conversation with aunty khudy. In fact, this particular aunt is the main reason I stayed out for long.

"Wa alaikum assalam Ahmad, where have you been all day? A lot has happened and you were the only one who was missing." she said.

"Speaking of missing, I guess someone has been missing you the most. But lucky you, she's still in the living room." she informed

The last thing I want is aunty khudy dragging me into the living room. where apparently her "someone" is waiting.
"Ah...aunty, I have a burning headache. I took some medication earlier and am beginning to feel drowsy." I said rubbing my temples.

"What! so early? Everybody is in the living room going through the family album, it's fun."  disappointment apparent in her tone.

"As much as I will like to be there, I  really need to rest, am sorry."

I said goodnight and went upstairs
to my room, I could hear chattering and laughing coming from the living room.

As soon as I got to my room I fell on the bed and closed my eyes.

All this is starting to get on my nerves. I spend the day at work only to come back home and have people breathe down my neck. I can't wait for all of this to be over.

I should be happy for Demi's sake. She's such a nice girl and we got on quiet well together. Even though there was a time we didn't see eye to eye.

During her last year in secondary school, she fell in with the bad crowd and was always sneaking out at night to go to the club with her friends. I caught and warned her time and again but she was so atrong headed. She was at that stage in life where she thinks she is old enough to make decisions  for herself and will not see otherwise. But two years ago, close to her graduation, I came back from Texas and met a totally different Demi and I must say Alhamdulillah, she has changed and we got back right where we left off.

I closed my eyes trying to get a little sleep before my roommates are back which will make sleep totally impossible.

Whenever there is an occasion in my family, adjustment are made to accommodate every family member. so I share my room with my cousins, Kareem and jimoh. Kareem is the same age as I while jimoh is two years younger than we are. When they come in, all they so is talk and brag about who just scored a phone number with the most beautiful girl in town or silly things like that.

Apart from the frustration of robbing me of my sleep, I love this guys. we always have each others back.

With that thought I fell asleep.
