It’s funny how things can change

In just a short period of time

It’s funny how in the summer everything can be fine

Then everything is changed

And even the moon agrees

For in the fall it is not how it looks in the summer

It’s funny how as seasons change, life changes

And even the moon has a different perspective

And in the moment it might feel as if nothing has changed

But when you look back everything has

And time doesn’t stop, it keeps going

It keeps going around and around as time moves on

In the summer it saw a girl

With her head in a whirl

Falling in love

With one of her best friends

Even though her heart was at risk

Because it might ruin their friendship

Her heart won out in the end

And somewhere between the long walks

And hour talks

She fell for him and he fell for her too

And even though she was afraid of heartbreak

She trusted him and let him in

They hung out every single day

And they were always happy and care-free

They’d take long walks through the park

And be out until it got dark

They’d talk about God and life

And marvel at the stars above

They would laugh until they cried

And get into water fights

They’d chalk each others driveways and go on icee runs

And no matter what they had fun

She was his girlfriend, and she was his boyfriend

But most importantly they were best friends

Then came fall

And the moon saw it all

They started drifting apart

And there was nothing that could be done

And even though they’d still hang out after school and go on walks

Something changed when August became September

Something neither exactly knew

But feelings change just like seasons do

And they didn’t fight for what they had

Which made their ending very sad

Neither knew it would come to this

Neither knew what was coming next

As the rain cried down they walked in silence

Breaking it, she finally spoke up

With the way he was acting she knew what was coming next

She held back tears as he tried to explain

And how they were better as best friends

He explained all his reasoning’s

And even though they were contradicting

She took it with strength even though she was confused

With tears in his own eyes he kept repeating how he still wanted her as a best friend

And how sorry he was and how special she is as he hugged her crying body

She kissed him lightly on the cheek goodbye

And ran home with her tears mixing in with the rain and her pain

It’s been a few days

And neither knows what to say

The hurt in her heart is a constant reminder

That not only did she lose her boyfriend she lost her best friend as well

They can’t even look each other in the eyes

And they avoid one another in the hall

She still doesn’t understand his reasoning’s

And is so confused

And quite honestly he must be too

She misses him and he does too

She wants to be friends again, but neither knows what to say

But right now she’s too hurt anyways

Maybe someday they will be friends again

But until then that is where this poem must tragically end

They remember God has a plan

And they pray to him on what to do

They rely on hope to get them through

So until one of them decides to break the silence

They’ll pass each other like they are strangers

And the moon will watch in disbelief

Because things really can change in the blink of an eye

And a lot of times we don’t know why

Only God knows the answers, and sometimes people change and feelings change

But either way life goes on
