~ Brody – Chapter Two ~

Walking up the path towards the rundown looking house, I couldn’t believe someone would actually live in here. Especially my own Mate, but maybe that would change soon. Standing right outside the door, I could sense her inside and I knew she could sense me too; even though I still hadn’t brought myself to actually knock on the wood.

No one knew I was here; they had all been too busy making birthday arrangements for the barbeque tonight. Harper was going all out, demanding balloons and streamers even though Grant and I argued against the idea because we’re not little kids. Then I gave up and chose that moment to sneak out without anyone noticing I had gone.

Usually we had a lunchtime celebration that goes on until dinnertime, but we all slept in late today. I was surprised Dad had actually let us. He normally wakes us all up, yelling at us that we needed to get up and open our gifts before he decided to take them all back.

‘Are you going to stand there all day, or knock?’ I jumped at the sound of a voice in my head, especially because that voice knew exactly what I was doing. Spinning around and searching my surroundings, I found my Dad standing across the road watching me.

Glaring angrily in his direction, ‘Are you spying on me?’ I demanded defensively. I had wanted this to be a surprise, and now he’s ruined everything.

Dad shook his head slowly, ‘No. I was just casually walking by and happened to notice you.’

I growled loudly through our mind link, showing him without words just how ticked off I was about his presence right now. Dad smiled back at me though and gave a small wave before turning around, ‘I’m proud of your choice, Brody and your family will enjoy this nice surprise.’

‘This isn’t about them,’ I muttered hotly, turning my back onto him and staring at the grainy wooden door before me. Raising my hand and banging a little roughly, I spared a quick glance over my shoulder to make sure he had already left. ‘Where are you?’ I questioned with interest.

Dad chuckled softly, ‘A few blocks away now, I didn’t mean to interrupt you. I was just worried when you snuck away from the house, no harm done.’

Feeling a tad bit guilty for snapping and being so rude towards him, ‘Thanks Dad,’ I mumbled, knowing he didn’t do it to ruin my plans and at least if anyone in this family can genuinely keep a secret, it is him.

The sound of the door opening brought me out of my thoughts and I looked straight into the eyes of my Mate. Everything around me slowed down until there was nothing, but the two of us. The wind was knocked out of my lungs as I openly stared at her, wondering how I could have resisted her for so long.

There wasn’t enough words in the English dictionary to describe how breathtakingly beautiful she was and when she smiled slightly, fidgeting on the spot a bit, my heart skipped beats and I was sure it was going to explode in my chest or I was going to suffer a heart attack at a young age.

“H-hi,” I whispered, then realised how dorky I sounded and cleared my throat, finally breaking eye contact with her as the doorframe suddenly became very interesting. “Hey...you?” I frowned at how it sounded more like a question then a greeting.
