Chapter 5 - I'll Be Back

.... Well... Hello readers! I have absolutely no reason as to why I haven't updated in so long... But anyway, here it is!!

Rudy stands up. "We're here for Jack," he says. We all look up, waiting for the nurse to speak. "Luckily, not vital organs were harmed. We stitched up the cut, and he should be awake in a little while," she says, and I feel as if the weight of the world was lifted off my chest. Like I can finally breathe again. "May I ask how this happened?" The nurse asks. The whole group turned to Jerry and I. We never did tell them what happened. I open my mouth to speak, but Jerry cut me off. "It was an accident. We don't know what happened." I look at Jerry questioningly. The nurse nods and tells us that we can go to Jack's room, then walks out. I sit back in my chair and pull out my phone

I look at Jerry. I guess he's right. "So... Are we gonna go see Jack?" I ask. "Why don't you just go? We'll be in in a little bit," Rudy says. I nod and walk down the hallway. 314..315... Here it is. Room 316. I slowly open the door to see Jack lying on the hospital bed, sleeping peacefully. I shut the door quietly and walk over to the bed, sitting in the chair next to him. I grab his hand gently and play with his fingers, a few tears escaping my eyes. "Hey Jack," I say, examining his pale face. "I'm really happy you're okay, I don't know what I would do if you weren't," I pause to sniffle. "Thank you for saving me. If you weren't there.." I trail off, not wanting to think about it. "Whatever, it's over now. But you did save me, Jack. I can never repay you for that. I... I love you," I finish. I feel Jack's hand gently squeeze mine. I smile and wipe my tears, happy tears replacing them. Jack turns his head over so he is facing me. "You forgot that I'm beautiful and I have awesome hair," he says, cracking a crooked smile. I laugh. "You wake up from being rushed to the hospital and that's what you say to me?" I laugh. He laughs quietly. "Did you hear that?" I ask him. He nods. "Every word." I blush. He heard me say that I love him? Oh no oh no oh no. "And Rosie?" He pulls me from my thoughts. "I love you too." He wraps his arms around me and pulls my to him, pressing our lips together. We stay like that for a minute, then we pull away. I smile lightly. The door opens, causing me to jump out of my chair, away from Jack. Rudy, Jerry, Milton, and Kim all walk in. "Jack!" Kim squeaks, rushing over and giving him a hug. The whole gang says their hellos to Jack and we sit in the room together. The door opens again and a police officer steps in. "Rosie?" I stand up, and Jerry does too. I look at him and motion for him to sit back down, then follow the officer out. "Mr. O'Connor would like to speak with you." I guess he saw the look on my face, because he said "Don't worry, we have officers in the room with you." I nod slowly, following the cop out of the hospital and down the street to the police station. I get more nervous the closer we get. This is the guy who almost... Raped me. I shudder at the thought as we walk through the doors, towards the back of the building. I look through a window and see Max sitting at a table, in all orange, with handcuffs. "Can he see us here?" I ask, noticing he hasn't looked at me yet. "Nope, this is a mirror window, on our side it's a window, and on his, it's a mirror," he explains. I nod in understanding. "Now I want you to know that you don't have to talk to him. It was his request to apologize before he is sent to prison," the officer tells me. "No no, it's okay, I want to hear what he has to say," I say. The officer opens the door and I walk in, seeing Max look up and smile. Though it wasn't an apologetic smile. Far from in actually. This smile was evil. It was... Sinister. I take a seat on the other side of the table and look down at my hands. "May we have a minute?" Max asks the security guard. He looks at me and I nod, signaling that it's okay for him to go. "Just yell if you need me," he says, walking out the door and shutting it. "Hello princess," he says, causing me to push my chair back slightly. He smiles maliciously. "C'mon, don't be like that," he begs. "I thought I was here for you to apologize," I seethe. Right now, sitting in front of him, I'm feeling my hatred for him boil. HE'S the reason Jack is in the hospital!! "Oh, you actually thought I would apologize?" He laughs. "No, I'm here to tell you one thing," he leans forward, and motions for me to lean in too. Without processing it, I feel myself lean forward too. Then he says five words. Five words that I have nightmares about still. Five words that changed my life:

"I'll be back for you."
