reminiscence

I let myself stare in the mirror
a little longer.
Long enough to notice
that my hair has gotten longer
and that my eyes have lost
a bit of their sparkle.

I begin to see a younger me
and start comparing the past
to reality.

A few years ago
here stood a girl afraid
of every change soon to be made
she hid in her closet
Hugged her Teddy bear
and put her fingers in her ears.

Funny how time
has brought me back here.
I look at my scars
and remember my fears

It's said by the wise
That the only time
you should look back
is to see how far you've come.
I guess that's why now,
I am able to smile at my reflection.
