Evangeline did not know if what she had done was wrong or not. She desperately wanted to make him smile, to see him happy and having fun like all the teenagers should, so she managed to bring him to the Halloween party. She was not particularly proud of herself, considering how she did it, and she was nervous and rather afraid of how he will act afterwards.

But Evangeline was not backing down now; she had to get at least one little positive emotion out of Damon tonight to prove him that it was not that bad after all.

~

It was only 5 minutes to 9 PM, and she was waiting for Damon just in front of the enormous house in which the party had already started. Everything had the proper eerie touch, from the jack-o'-lanterns and many fluorescent decorations which lit up the house and garden, to the artificial smoke that was coming out of a special machine. The music suited the celebration and although it was not extremely loud, it could still be heard from outside.

As the minutes passed by, it was getting rather crowded even for the very large space the host had.

Evangeline was wearing a white lacy dress, ending just below her knees. It had a beautiful A shape which brought out the great quality of the fabric, the wind making it flow delicately around her legs. The dress also had sleeves, that reached just above the middle of her upper arms, and a bow in the back, below her chest.

Evangeline had a simple white fluffy tiara on the top of her head and her brown hair was brought on the right side, the slight soft curls resting on her shoulder.

She checked her watch and smiled to herself; she was sure he would come. Neither of them knew it, but she had a little special something that made it hard if not impossible for Damon to say "No" to her.

"You're an angel..." said a deep voice from behind her. She turned around and saw Damon gazing at her in wonder. He was just two steps away from her and she could see his blazing brown eyes clear as day. She couldn't help but look down at the ballet-flats, which completed her outfit, to hide her blush. Him looking at her like that, as if she truly was what she had dressed up as,  made her feel uncomfortable in a way she was not used to; she did not expect it, especially not from him.

"Uhmm... yeah, I couldn't find anything else." she admitted, smoothing out the dress.

Only now he was realizing how beautiful Evangeline was... how innocent. She was naively imperfect... the crooked way in which the necklace rested around her neck, the unruly curls in her hair, the slight dark circles under her mesmerizing brown eyes, the visible goosebumps on her skin... all of which made her the natural, pretty girl in front of him.

"I considered buying a pair of fluffy wings, you know." she laughed lightly and took a step towards him. He snorted.

"Nah... they're overrated." Damon shrugged and put his hands in his pockets. He caught a glimpse of her sheepish smile which faded when she took a better look at him.

"Where's your costume?" she inquired with her eyebrows furrowed at his clothing. The deep blue jeans were hugging his waist and the crisp white shirt had a red stripe on the sleeves; he was wearing ordinary clothes, nothing more.

"What did you expect? I'm here because I want that damn code, Eva. So tell me what it is!" Damon raised his voice at her but she tsked and began searching for something in her purse.

"Oh, here it is!" Evangeline murmured to herself and took out a small red cotton scarf, which she whipped in the air to unfold it immediately.

"There's no way you're finding out what the password is if you're not dressed up for Halloween." she muttered while refolding the scarf on it's length and coming closer. She was right in front of him, the heat of his body warming her up sweetly and their chests brushing together. He could sense her calming, familiar lilac perfume on the base of her neck and around her wrists.

"What the hell are you doing?" he frowned and tried to take a step backwards, but Evangeline firmly gripped his shoulder and kept him from moving. She took the scarf and put it around his neck, slapping his hand away.

"Red, white, blue... You could pass as a sailor." she smiled while knotting tightly the scarf in front. "A tall one." she added, standing on her toes to adjust the collar of his shirt. Her long slender fingers were cold against his skin, sending tingles everywhere. He couldn't help but watch her as she tried to make it look as original as possible, her lips forming a tight line when she tugged a bit on the knot to loosen it up.

'Her skin seems so soft, so easy to bruise...'

Damon snapped out of it as Evangeline removed her hands and grinned proudly. Her soft fragrance would have been gone completely but for the scarf around his neck. It was a part of her that she was willing to give to him... Why would she do that? Why did she even care?

"You were lucky my grandma has a thing with traditions. She made me take something red with me for protection or something like that." she chucked and continued:

"Come on! We'll have fun, you'll see."
