Allah is Forbearing. One of Allah's names is al-Halīm (The Forbearing One). It follows, therefore, that Allah loves the quality of forbearance. He calls upon us to exhibit this trait and blesses us when we do so. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to Ashajj b. Qays: "You possess two qualities that Allah loves: forbearance and patience." [Sahīh Muslim (17-18)]

Jabir ibn Sulaim reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Beware of pride, for Allah does not love pride. If a person abuses and reviles you in a matter he knows about you, then do not revile him in a matter you know about him, for then you will have his reward and he will have his sin. Thus, do not revile anyone."

Al-Ghazali said, "Know that for every act of injustice issued from a person it is not permissible to confront it with similar injustice. Hence, it is not permissible to confront backbiting with backbiting, and it is not permissible to confront spying with spying, nor abuse with abuse. It is the same for all sinful acts of disobedience."
