I look at my mom as we stop in front of their door. I cross my arms. She looks at me, and raises her eyebrow.
"Stop it, I'm sure they are going to be very friendly" she says as she presses the doorbell. I sigh and look at the dark green door. The door opens, and a lady appears at the doorway. She had medium-length blonde hair, green eyes, light skin, and was around the same height I was. She was very pretty. She smiles at us.
"Hello, may I help you?" She asked softly. I smiled softly back. My mom did the same.
"Hi, we're the Brooks, we just wanted to stop by and welcome you to the neighborhood" my mom said to her politely. The ladies smile got brighter and bigger.
"Oh wow, hello my name is Trish Jonas, please come on in" she says as she steps to the side, opening the door wider. My mom smiles big, and walks inside with my little brother in hand. I step in behind him, and look around. The living room was big, it had: wooden floors, three light tan couches, a flat screen near the wall in the middle. Music was playing from the TV, it was Beyoncé's haunted playing. The living room felt new, yet comforting.
"Please, take a seat, anywhere you'd like" she said as she smiled. We sat down one the big couch that was directly in front of the TV. She sat on the one seater that was on the right side of the living room.
"I'm so happy that you stopped by, My and my children were going to go around the neighborhood tomorrow" she says, look at my mom.
"Oh wow, you should really go downtown. There is a huge mall that a lot of people go to. There is so many stores, and a huge food court" my mom says. Her excitement was visible, and it made me smile a little. Seeing my mom happy, made me feel good inside, which is why she doesn't know my secret.
"Oh good, the move hasn't been the easiest on my kids"
"Yes, moving is difficult but I'm sure my daughter Norah, wouldn't mind showing them around" my mom says, looking at me. I look at her, and she bats her eyelashes. I roll my eyes slightly.
"Sure, why not" I say, with a soft smile. Trish smiled.
"BRANDON, SARAH!" She shouted. I feel my heart race fast. I never got along with people, they either bullied me for being big or for being to quiet or both even. I heard footsteps come down the stairs behind me. I see Trish smile.
"Guys this is the Brooks, they are our neighbors next door" she says. I turn around and see them. Sarah was short, had long dark brown hair, green eyes like her mother, and a curvy body. She looked about seventeen years old. She was wearing dark blue, v-neck shirt with light blue jeans that was ripped at the knees, with black combat boots. She looked at me, and smiled softly. Her smile was genuine, and I smiled softly, shyly back. I looked to her right, and I saw her brother. I felt my heart leap up to my throat like a frog jump from rock to rock on a pond.
He was about 5'7, dark brown hair that was perfectly cut. He was a little tanned,  and had light brown eyes. He had a lean body, and his arms looked strong. He was wearing a red button down shirt that was opened, with a white tank-top underneath with black jeans, with white  socks on. I looked at him and our eyes connected. He softly smiles at me, and looks at me. His look gave me a chill down my spine, but it was a nice chill. His eyes squinted softly, as if he was searching me, trying to find the answer to a question he was too embarrassed to ask out loud. My heart began to beat fast. I bite my lip softly, and look away.
"My name is Emily brooks, and this is Jordan" my mom says pointing to my little brother. He leaned forward, and got off the sofa. He goes to Sarah, and puts out his hand.
"It's nice to meet you Sarah" he says shyly, looking down. Sarah giggles and squats down.
"Why hello there, it's a pleasure to meet somebody so handsome" she says sweetly, as she shakes her hand. I look at my brother, and he blushes. I smile a little. He lets go of her hand and looks toward Brandon. Brandon squats down, and smiles. His smile was breath taking.
"It's nice to meet you too Brandon" he says holding out his hand. Brandon lends out his hand, and takes my brothers hand gently, as if my brother was a glass doll.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too Jordan, do you mind if I call you J?" He ask. My brother looks at me.
"My sister is the only one who calls me that, is it okay Norah?" He looks at me. My brother was only five years old, yet he had more compassion and care than most people in this world. I smile softly, reassuringly at him. Brandon looks at me.
"It's okay J". He smiles at me, and looks at Brandon.
"Okay, you can call me J" he says with his smile growing bigger.  Brandon smiles at him, and gives my brother a high-five. He gets back up, and looks at me. My brother walks back to where he was sitting, and nudges me.
"Your not gonna shake their hand?" He says confused. I looks at him, and slightly glare. He smiles innocently. I get up slowly. I walk in front of Sarah. She smiles.
"Norah right?" She asks. I nod slightly, and hold out my hand. She takes it and shakes it softly.
"It's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Sarah. How old are you?" She asks me. Her eyes questioning me as well. I clear my throat softly.
"I'm nineteen" I say softly. Her smile fades in disappointment. Oh great, I'm already a disappointment.
"Damn, I'm always the youngest," she giggles. "I'm seventeen. Your actually a year younger than Brandon. Wait, when were you born?" She asks me quickly. I look at her confused.
"November 18th, 1996" I say softly. She smiles.
"Look Brandon, your just a couple months older than her" she says, turning her eyes toward him. I slowly guide my eyes toward him. He was staring at me. I blush slightly, and he smiles knowing he was the cause of my cheeks turning pink. He lends out his hand for me take. I look at it, then at him, as if he was asking me to put my life in his hands. I hesitate but walk a little to the side. I take his hand softly, and my heart beats fast again. His lips part slightly. I bite my lip.
"Hello Norah, I'm Brandon. It's a real pleasure to meet you and your family " he says as he looks at my mom and my brother. He smiles at them, gazes back at me. I stop biting my lip, and stare at him. I force the words to come out my mouth.
"It's a pleasure to meet you too" I say softly. I let go of his hand, not wanting to. What the hell is wrong with me? Keep it together! His out of your league. Everyone is! For now, at least.
"Would you guys like to stay for dinner? I'm sure. We could whip something up fast?" She asks. I look at my mom. Please say no!
"Sure, we would love to stay. I hope we're not imposing on you or making you feel like you have t--"
"Oh please, it's not a bother at all Hun. It's the least we could do, you and your family didn't have to welcome us but, you did and for that it will be great for you guys to join us for dinner" she says delightedly. My mom smile brightens.
"Sure, why not!" Sarah smiles at us and goes upstairs. Trish gets up.
"Would you and Jordan like to help out in the kitchen? I got some nice red wine?" She says to my mom.
"Mommy what's wine?" Jordan asks. I look at Jordan.
"It's what grown people drink J, and you have to be this height" I put my hand past me and Brandon's head, tiptoeing. "to drink some" Jordan crosses his arm across his chest.
"I hate being small" he says, annoyed. Trish laughs, and my mom takes Jordan's hand. They walk past me and Brandon, into the kitchen behind us. I heard Brandon chuckle in my ear. I felt my body tense. I turn around quickly, looking at him. I step back a little, realizing how close we were.
"Sorry, didn't know I was so close to you" I say quickly, I look down at my feet as I put my hands in the pockets of my leather.
"It's okay," I heard the humor in his voice. I look up, he was smiling at me, his eyes sparkling. "would you like me take your jacket?" He asks. I nod. I start to take off my jacket, but he stops me by putting his hand on my shoulder gently. I look at him confused. He twirls his finger around, indicating for me to turn around. I do as I'm told, and he takes off my jacket gently. His touch made me get goosebumps. I close my eyes, enjoying his cool touch on my shoulders, going down to my finger tips. Snap out of it Brooks!
"So, are you in college Norah?" He asks me, as he puts my jacket on the coat rack near the door. I nod.
"Cool, what school? What's your major?" He asks me. Does he want me to speak?
"I go to Hampton university, majoring in English" I say quietly. He turns to me, and walks to me. He smiles.
"That's amazing, you must love to read and write" he says, looking into my eyes. I look down as my check turn a darker pink.
"Yup. Literature is my escape" I say. He walks to the couch, and sits down. I sit down on the same couch, far away from him. I lean forward, clamping my hands together in front of my Chest. I felt a shift on the sofa, and look to see him sitting closer to me. I look at him.
"Would it make it less awkward if I told you some things about myself?" He asks me as if he was reading my mind. I nodded slightly.
"Well, I'm nineteen years old. Born and raised in New York City. I am actually studying law. I switched majors about two times. First, it was technology, then it was chemistry. They didn't seem to fit right with me. So, I decided to take law. It's interesting, a lot of reading, but interesting. My favorite colors are red and black. I prefer ballpoint pens than gel pens," I giggle. He looks at me and smiles. "I prefer dogs over cats. I've never done drugs. Im single, I'm---"
"Your single?" I ask, not realizing I cut him off. I was shocked. He smirks.
   "Yes, you sound really surprised"
"Well, yeah. I mean, your so-- I mean your very--umm, you just seem to be the kind of person, that wouldn't be single"
"I guess I'm just full of surprises" I look at him, and state into his eyes. His eyes were searching me again.
"Can I tell you something, without sounding very creepy?" He asks me. His voice went from happy to shy. His eyes were low. He looked at me, when I'm nervous. I shrugged my should slightly.
"Sure, I guess" I say. He clears his throat.
"NORAH!" I hear my brother shout my name as he ran from the kitchen. I turned around to look at him. He runs to me.
"What's going on? You okay?" I ask, confused and concerned. His smile was big.
"Mommy got a call, we get to go pick up our new puppy tonight" he says as he jumped up and down in front of me. I giggles slightly. I put my hands on his shoulders, stopping him.
"Relax, did mom say we can go right now?" I ask. My mom comes in, and I look at her. She smiles, and nods.
"Trish said, If you want i could stay and you take Jordan to get the puppy, since I told her you ate already" she says to me. I smile. Thank God!
I nod, and I look at J.  I saw the excitement running through his body. My smile slowly faded a little. Brandon! I look at Brandon next to me.
"It's cool, we'll talk again soon Norah. Sisterly duties come first" he says to me sweetly. He smiles at me, and winks at me. I blush, and turn my head to Jordan.
"Alright, let's go get our new puppy J" I say. He yells in excitement and runs towards the door. My mom go back into the kitchen.
"Be safe honey" she says to me. I get up, and go to the coat rack. Brandon grabs my coat before I can, and he looks at me. He opens my jacket, and motions for me to put my arms through the sleeves. I comply, and he puts the jacket on me.
"What I wanted to say was, you're very beautiful. More beautiful, than you think you are" he whispers to me in my ear. I turn around and look at him. My mouth slightly opened in shock. My heart was racing, and I felt my eyes tear up. He frowns at me, his eyes being filled with concern. I blink back my tears, my heart and breath getting trapped in my throat.
"Come on J, it's time to go" I say.
"I'm waiting, come on Norah" He says to me, pulling my arm.
"Thank you" I whisper to Brandon. I turn my back to him before he can speak again, and leave with my brother before Brandon can make my whole body more weak than it was already.
