Palms are sweaty and stomach's queasy,
Look around me at unknown faces.
Feelings of lonliness seemed familiar
Until I saw a smiling face.
She came up to me
And smiled happily,
I knew what she'd say.
"Hello" and "are you new?"
All I manage to do is nod.
Her eyes say she wants to know more.
I'm back at being uncomfortable,
Trying to think of what t o say
That wouldn't sound weird or stupid.
I tell her my name, one of the few things
I'm sure of at the moment!
Her smile is inviting, I am lured
And all my worries seemed crazy!
Chatter comes easily to us after that,
She looks so genuinely interested!
I think "I would step into a whole new world,
If it promised to have people like her!"
