CRY BABY

Two years later, our cry baby was seventeen, and although she hardly spoke, she saw everything.

Despite this, she didn't necessarily understand everything.

"Luke kept on looking at you today," Charels spoke. He was now nineteen, and in his final year of schooling before he went to work with their father.

"He did?" Melanie was starstruck. She was in love with the idea of being in love.

"Yeah," her brother continued. "Probably because you're a big cry baby, and cried all day."

Melanie felt her gut drop, walking into a house that didn't feel like home.

"Dinner is done," their mother smiled falsely as they walked through the door. "Your dad won't be home until late."

"I'm not hungry," Melanie muttered, running up the stairs before her tears started to fall.

"Why won't she eat anything I cook?" Their mother spoke from downstairs.

"She's a cry baby, she's probably scared her tears will ruin the food."
