Chapter Twenty:Growing pains

Locking my gaze with Xavier, I knew I was busted- but still felt overwhelmed by a sense of victory. The messages were sent and both Lily and my mum would know that I was doing fine- another weight  lifted off my shoulders.

“I had too.”

In my head my response was self-assured, but it came out a whisper.

“You could have just asked.”

The words rolled off his tongue in a way that made the proposition seem like the obvious option- but I knew it wasn’t the case.

“Come on we both know you would never have let me- I was kidnapped Xavier.  I still don’t even have a phone.”

Rubbing his temples he looked frustrated as he gestured towards the bed.

“Go to bed Mila.”

“I won’t ask again.”

Knowing that I had already pushed the boundaries I reluctantly crept in, soon followed by Xavier, who I felt staring at me- even with my eyes shut.

“It’s rude to stare.”

“It’s rude to hack a single mother’s broadband.”

His wit was sexy yet infuriating, but I bit my tongue. If my father found out that I was able to contact my mother and Lily he would definitely take my laptop away- and I’d have no way to contact them again.

Swallowing both pride and fear, I stared up at Xavier who let out a low warning growl as he saw me looking at him expectantly.

“You won’t tell… Would you?”

“Sleep Mila.”

There was no real answer, but I decided to trust him despite his warning- swiftly shutting my eyes as he stared down at me through furrowing eyebrows- his eyes a light grey once again.

Waking up to the homely smell of Eggs and Bacon, my stomach growled loudly as I slowly opened my eyes.

Still new to my surroundings- my heart suddenly stopped when I realised I wasn’t in my own bed. Jumping from the bed I scanned the room I was in- soon enough realising that it was my new room…

I wasn’t home but at least not in any immediate danger.

My throat aching painfully I also remembered that I was a half dead immortal and that one of the other new additions to my life in the creepy Debaucheur mansion was missing.

Xavier.

Crawling back underneath the blankets I felt slight comfort as I stuck my face into the sheets that was riddled with his oaky scent, causing the raw feeling in my throat to subside. He actually skipped out on me before anyone could see us together.

The thought although hurtful wasn’t unexpected, after all he had made his intentions clear last night- we could never be together.

Desperate not to be trapped in bed all day wallowing in self-pity I followed his scent to the source- sniffing one of his personal items all day would still be better than being trapped in bed. Although every sense I had was heightened I still however struggled to find where the scent was coming from- a skill I probably would have to work on.
