My breathe hitched as a servant tightened my bodice to flatter my figure, which I didn’t even find flattering myself, it looks and feels too stiff. I would prefer loose apparel any day.

I breathed slowly while she finished tying the strings and I stared at the long mirror in front of me. looking at my face I sighed, I was always known for my looks, simply a beautiful girl or the pretty princess. I never really cared for the complements, they annoyed me actually. I sometimes find myself wishing to be just plain looking like everyone else.

Though being a princess, whether I was ugly as a dog or pretty as a well, princess; I would be treated with respect (Which sometimes is just boring). And of course being a princess I had to learn how to do many things, things I never had a care for. I dreaded sewing, and to tell you the truth I loved just relaxing in the kitchen and eating in the most unladylike way, without my parents knowing of course.

I always wanted to learn how to sword fight too. I used sneak away from my mother sometimes and watch my brothers and a couple of boys practice swordplay, and sometimes even archery, which fascinated me the most. I even got the guts to steal a bow and a few arrows to just try and see if I could do it, I was much too weak though and I hadn’t held a weapon in my whole entire life. To say the least, it ended with a stinging and bleeding hand, and a broken bow string. I’d never got the chance to try again seeing as my mother had caught me playing with it and forced me to do extra sewing work as punishment, not letting me near the practice grounds again.

That was many years ago and now, I’m seventeen years of age. A lot of people wonder if I’m ill or have some sort of disease, seeing as I haven’t got a husband yet. My mother wanted to search for one as soon as I became of age, but my father prolonged her as I was his only daughter and well, I definitely didn’t want a husband anytime soon. I dread the day when a cocky prince will come to our palace and try to claim me as his bride, the thought makes me cringe.

I looked away from the mirror and smiled at the servant, letting her leave. I sat down on my bed and admired the dress I was wearing, though I didn’t care for the tightness of it, it was rather beautiful and was adorned with the finest laces, silks, and pearls that decorated the neckline. I sighed, though it was pretty, I would do anything to get out of it, and I mean anything.

I heard a faint knock at the door and I bid them to come in, “Addison, you look very pretty today.” My mother said, walking over to sit beside me on the bed.

“Thank you, mother.” I sighed, looking into her deep green eyes, they were identical to mine, the only thing I got from my father was his thick dirty blonde hair.

“You are so beautiful dear; you hadn’t need a speck of powder or a piece of jewelry to flatter your face.” She smiled at me, touching my face. Though it was annoying being so ‘pretty’, I was glad of the fact mother hadn’t pushed makeup and jewelry on me, I was sure of it that she would if I hadn’t looked like I did, and I don’t think I could handle that.
