The sixty one year old woman lay her head on the couch, listening to her five year old twin grandchildren along with her seventeen year old grandson.

The twins go on and on about how they wanted to be astronauts when they grew up, and the old woman decided to look at her grandson for a change.

She saw the yellowing of his skin, the veins above his eyelids. The brown bruise on his face. His chapped lips and his thinning body and hair. A thick scar across his arm which looked like it tried to heal, but couldn't

She chewed on her bottom lip, be cause she figured this wasn't good, not good at all. She started to admire his good qualities. His smile that didnt really meet his eyes when he did, his hair that stuck up, his beautiful green eyes ( which was surrounded by a small purple bruise) his frail arms which thankfully had but one scar, the bad one

But all of those qualities were bad. That smile was because of the kids at school

His hair was because he didn't have the motivation to do it

His eyes because he didn't feel like doing anything anymore, because his step father abuses him.

That scar because he didn't think to highly of himself. Maybe he self harmed.

And then, she noticed she never paid attention to the high schooler.

She just now noticed how horrible a state he was in. And she couldn't believe he didn't hate her for it

She never noticed her grandson, but he noticed she didn't notice him too.
