Chapter 2

Present Day

Paris France

I was running down the Champ de Mars, heading towards the Eiffel Tower. It was dark out, probably three in the morning, I had lost track of time. I was supposed to be out of here before midnight and now look at the trouble I’m in, damn some people. Damn them to hell . . .

I arrived in Paris at around five o’clock. I was here to pick up some clothes from one of those cute little boutiques on the outskirts of the city. Once I had picked them up, I brought them back to the base and came back to have a nice, relaxing break while everyone else slept.

I was in this nice little cafe on the main shop street, enjoying a nice strong mug of coffee. When this guy sits on the seat opposite me, he had blond hair and sparkling green eyes. He was quite tanned and well built, you could see because of the tight white shirt he wore. He was probably in his early twenties. He was gorgeous and most definitely knew it. He had a smirk on his face the whole time he sat there. He asked me to a movie so I agreed, I had nothing better to do and no movie would run past midnight.

Well, I was wrong.

The movie we went to see was four and a half hours long. And it started at ten. I still went though, mostly because I was so bored. I had decided that I would make up some excuse to leave at around eleven and a half, but that didn't turn out too well. The movie was boring but I couldn't get away, the night only worsened when he said he would walk me home. So I told him my uncle was meeting me at the Eiffel Tower at midnight and that he could just go, but he obviously did not understand the big fuck off sign on my forehead. He stayed. So I had to go to plan B and ditch him. I told him I needed to use the ladies room, so I excused myself and left him sitting on a bench. Once I was out of his view I made my way up along the Champ de Mars.

It was around two in the morning now and I was in for it when I got back to the base.

There were a few people still walking around and a few groups of young teenagers drinking on the grass. I probably didn’t look out of place but I still felt as if I was being watched somewhat. So I quickened my pace. I knew that being here past midnight would be bad and I wasn’t allowed to be at any one place for more than six hours and I had already risked it by staying for the movie but now I was really worrying.

The further I walked the less people I saw but I still couldn’t risk it. I kept my pace fast, but not fast enough to look suspicious; I didn’t want it to look like I was running just in case there was someone following me.

As I glanced over my shoulder I noticed two men walking past a trash can, in the same direction as me. One had his face covered from me and the other was looking in my direction, staring at me. I noticed the gray coat he wore. The gray coat I was all too familiar with lately.

I ran.

I ran down the Champ de Mars as fast as my legs would let me. Why had I chosen to wear heels today? Why? I complained to myself, but I still ran. I didn’t know what else to do. I had to get cover. So I ran, hoping for the cover of the Eiffel Tower to help me escape. I took one last glance back over my shoulder and saw that the men were chasing me and gaining fast. One was reaching into the inside of his jacket, which just made me run faster.

I pushed my legs to the limit and just as I got under the cover of the Eiffel Tower I was caught in a net.

As I was falling towards the ground I let my thoughts flicker to the base, where everyone would be having breakfast right about now. I saw the kitchen and everyone around it. I felt myself slipping away. My body felt light. The net was no longer restraining me as I let myself slip away, keeping the thoughts of the base kitchen in my mind.
