B a c k s t o r y :
• Like Master Splinter, she had the same problem as a Hamato, and lost her mother as a child to prevent the return of the Shredder, but she was then told by her great grandfather (Grandpa Chō) that she would have the same fate in the future.
• As we see in the series, we only ever see the women in the Hamato Clan disappear unlike the men. Grandpa Chō was still there, but we never see a grandma, which I could only imagine she had also disappeared the same way as Splinters mother, Hamato Atsuko. And as a a woman, Miwa was now fearing the thought of death coming for her, which she then prefers to call it The Hamato Curse, and grows to hate the fact she is a Hamato.
• Miwa has never actually met Master Splinter, and he was unaware he even had a niece. Miwa had only ever heard stories of him as a child from her mother, and watched his movies, so she only really knows him as Lou Jitsu or his real name, Hamato Yoshi, which would mean she wouldn't know him as Master Splinter until later on.
• They don't even know they were related until later on into the story.
