The abbey became a prison and a fortress at the same time for us.

A couple of our Sisters wanted to leave.

"We want to know if our family is well," they said, but the Madre was adamant.

"Nobody is leaving. I forbid you."

Nobody could leave, but nobody could come inside too. Those that knocked our doors for a safe shelter were turned away.

That was our island of salvation, high on a top of a hill, overlooking a dying world.
