Chapter 4: Brothers Are Really Delicious

Zhuang Yu looked at the roaring golden centipede with puzzlement. Logically, such an ancestral beast shouldn't be so agitated in its own territory. It's like it's demonstrating something?

Unable to figure it out, but Zhuang Yu could be sure of one thing: living in a cave isn't bad. He could already imagine the chaotic scene of those living on the centipede's back.

After a while, the giant centipede finally quieted down and settled back among the mountains.

Zhuang Yu rubbed his hungry stomach and began searching for food. He started by looking around the area where he encountered small mushrooms. According to his estimation, if small mushrooms were hitting him, there should be berry trees nearby, and maybe even some chili peppers, just hidden away.

He searched for half a day, but to no avail. Not only did he not find berries and chili peppers, he didn't even find their shadows.

Zhuang Yu was puzzled. Why didn't his speculation match reality? Where did those berries and chili peppers come from that the small mushrooms threw at him?

But he wasn't completely empty-handed. He found some wild mushrooms, albeit normal ones without hands or feet.

Mushrooms typically exist underground in the form of spores and are usually invisible. It's only after heavy rain that they quickly grow and emerge from the soil.

Zhuang Yu had quite a bit of experience in wilderness survival, so he could distinguish which mushrooms were edible.

Looking at the pile of mushrooms in the pouch around his waist, the quantity might not be enough to fill him up, but it was sufficient to ease his hunger.

Zhuang Yu started walking back. If he didn't eat something soon, he'd probably faint.

On the way back, he observed the other members of the Golden Centipede Tribe, realizing he needed to quickly familiarize himself with the place and learn how to survive.

Underneath a cliff that provided shelter from wind and rain, Zhuang Yu saw a huge bonfire, where many people were lighting fires to take back to their caves.

This should be the Tribe's source of fire.

Now he didn't have to worry about not being able to make fire. As for friction fire starting? That's not an easy task. He had tried before and ended up exhausted with only smoke to show for it.

Zhuang Yu saw the people of the Golden Centipede Tribe carrying fire back to their caves and then roasting a piece of meat they had stored for who knows how long. The surface of the meat was even turning green.

Then they gnawed on the roasted meat hungrily.

Zhuang Yu was stunned. No seasoning at all, just plain roasted meat. Was it delicious?

He had once mistakenly eaten unseasoned stir-fried meat, which was difficult to swallow.

But this person was enjoying it.

It's not accurate to say there was no seasoning because the person was licking a piece of stone while eating the roasted meat, squinting with enjoyment. Must be really delicious?

Zhuang Yu looked at the stone in a daze. Perhaps this stone left a deep impression on him, as it brought back many memories all at once.

It was a salt rock, abundant in the Water Marsh Tribe's territory. Many Tribes went to the Water Marsh Tribe every year to exchange for salt rocks.

Zhuang Yu thought to himself, he came from the Water Marsh Tribe, so maybe he also had salt rocks. His cave was filled with so many odds and ends; he didn't know what was there.
