"you're late...again."

genesis rushed to unlock the door letting the few early birds in. "sorry mr. andrew's. won't happen again, scouts honor."

"yes, it will." he mutters and genesis gives a tight lipped smile because honestly it probably will happen again. but, he didn't seem as mad as he did about it the other day and she'd say that's progress.

"blueberry scone, again?"

"and a large coffee, please,"

genesis nods and grabs the scone using her metal tong and carefully places in in the bag. she turns to push the button making a simple black coffee then covers it before placing it in front of him. "$7.15 is your total for today."

"thank you, have a great day!" she calls out watching him leave and receiving an annoyed groan in return.

"hi, mrs. brien. how are you this morning?"

"great, hun. thanks for asking. don't you worry about robert, he's always been a tough cookie to crack."

"and crack him i will." genesis smiles in return and after that order. she took her phone from her apron pocket sending clementine a quick text to see if she's coming.

genesis pocketed her phone once the bell dinged and she looks up smiling at clementine. "hey, good morning."

"good morning, love! was it busy so far?"

"no, not really just two regs." she says, glancing up at the clock. she couldn't help but to think about carmy. it's been a week since she started officially working at the bakery and a week since they first met and every morning, sometimes even nights carmy would show up asking for a bagel and a black coffee.

and everytime genesis would convince him to try something else and he would cave and break, then they would have playful banter and then he would leave and she would be stuck thinking about him for her whole shift.

clementine nods, going to the sink to wash her hands. she glances at genesis and laughs, "how long are you guys going to play this cat and mouse game?"

"what do you mean?" she asks, tearing her eyes away from the clock.

"he shows up the same exact time. everyday. you look at that clock five minutes before he walks in, everyday. don't think i haven't noticed."

genesis giggles into her hands like a schoolgirl. "ugh, is it that obvious? i wish he'd just, like, ask me out already?"

"carmy's complicated."
