I remember the day we met vividly
Almost like it was yesterday
We were young, no worries other than
The fear of not being able to go
Outside and play
I remember those hot summer days in Texas
I hated those days
but you were the breeze I needed to keep myself cool and collected
At times when the rain had me feeling neglected
I remember summertime was short-lived, but we made every moment count
Months pass
Back to school, where my anxiety would spike
Pen and pad, keep me calm when you are away
Ashamed to say that my surroundings were my kryptonite
Grateful that you were my Lois Lane
I remember we were both new to love
Whispering sweet nothings to each other
Even when times were sour
When we fought, I thought time was the solution
But as I witnessed your feelings fade to black
I noticed I was blinded by my own delusions
I remember the heartbreak, heartache, these were new to me
Looking back, that was an inevitable conclusion
They say young love is destined to fail
I didn't think their words would come to fruition
I remember years later we'd grown
And found our way back to each other
Saying you were my childhood crush would be an understatement
You could take a shovel, dig deep
And it still wouldn't reach the core of our connection
I remember you as a friend, companion, lover, soulmate
No substitute
I remember those days
Do you?
