10. commanders passing

          the feeling of death has been hanging over my head since i left lexa, im on my horse now about to leave the gates. i don't want to leave polis the way i'm about too. i want to tell her goodbye before i return back later.
"(stop!)"
i tell my men
"(what's wrong azgona)"
"(i need to speak to heda, you all go ahead and go home. i will be shortly behind y'all)"
thy nod but zues doesn't leave, i expected nothing different
"(i'll wait here for you azgona)"
"(thank you)"
he nods and i start my walk. memories of my sister, lexa, and myself flood through my head. there were few times i got to spend with them but those times were good, i wish we could have them again. as i enter the hall i hear gunshots, i pull my sword out ready for anything
"lexa! lexa (where are you)?"
and then a shot again. in the direction of clarkes room.
"(no)"
i run as fast as my legs will let me
"lexa"
i yell throwing the door open, and as soon as it swung open a pain i have never felt rushed threw my body
"clarke what did you do!"
"it wasn't her aspen"
i stare at titus giving him the look i give all i kill
"i'm so sorry"
he said
"azgona please forgive me"
"(shut up!) clarke can you save her"
"i don't know, she's losing to much blood"
titus pulled out a red cloth full of things as i go kneel down and grab lexas hand
"don't die on me lexa"
she doesn't say anything
"what is that"
he opened the red cloth showing all of his tools
"titus what are you doing?"
he stays quiet
"i will fix you. just stay with me"
"get away from her"
clarke tells titus who is now grabbing her face
"forgive me, heda"
"if she dies, so do you both. so do your people clarke"
"(neither one of you will attempt to harm clarke. swear it)"
"(i swear it)"
"(aspen please)"
how do i deny a wish from someone on their deathbed? i don't
"(i swear it)"
"(then do your job titus. serve the next as you have served me, flamekeeper. aspen, don't be scared to change your ways. skaikru is good and you can be too)
"(no you're going to be fine, okay? i can't lead like you)"
"(you have too, for me. find love in your heart, for me)"
i nod still holding her hand and clarke walks up
"hey, heda, don't you dare give up"
"i'm not. my spirit will live on"
"no. im not letting you die"
"there's nothing you can do now"
i can feel my heart shattering
"the next commander will protect you"
"i don't want the next commander. i want you"
"i'm ready heda"
titus says and just now do i notice murphy standing in the room. titus starts his job
"clarke. aspen. (my fight is over)"
"no. no. i won't accept that"
"then save her clarke"
i beg
"you were right, clarke. life is about more than just surviving."
"in peace may you leave the shore. in love may you find the next. safe passage on your travels. until our final journey on the ground. may we meet again"
"(may we meet again)"
she was gone. i could do nothing but scream.
"(no no lexa wake up. please wake up)"
"i must complete the ritual"
titus says moving clarke
"please. the commanders spirit must be passed on. this is my purpose. you must allow me to complete the task. it is what the commander would have wanted"
"get out of his way clarke"
she nodded and moved
"come on we should go"
murphy said grabbing her but she refused
"(your fight is over, lexa of trikru.) the commanders fight goes on"
he goes to turn her over and causes a reaction from clarke
"what are you doing?"
"the sacred symbol"
murphy says
"what are you doing?"
"his job"
"oh my God"
titus pulls out the flame causing the sky people to stare strangely
"what is that?"
"it's an a.i."
"wrong. it's the spirit of the commander"
he put the flame in its container and picked lexa up
"you believe our flame is like your a.i.?"
"what? what are you talking about?"
clarke asks
"i'm talking to murphy"
"it sure looks like it"
that is very strange
"we'll continue this talk later"
titus yells for the guards
"(let the conclave begin. the commander is dead) may her spirit choose wisely"
i walk out with them
"(lock the sky people in there) until titus says otherwise"
the thing with the a.i. is throwing me for a lope but i need to go home, now for a different reason then before
"(zues, let's go home)

the crowd screamed as i rode my horse through the ice nation, i look towards the beautiful castle waiting for my arrival
"(azgona)"
"(she's back)"
"(did you kill the commander?)"
"(what happened to heda)"
i heard everything floating around the crowd but said nothing
"welcome home princess"
roan said
"(queen to you)"
"thanks to lexa"
i glare at him but keep myself under control
"i am sorry for your loss"
"it's all of our loss"
"and now it's ontari's turn to lead us all"
"she's not leading anyone, she will win and i will lead"
"why do you get to lead"
"because i'll kill anyone who tries to change that. now go get ontari"
he does as i said and brings her so we can both talk to her
"you know no one is going to like this idea but their opinion doesn't matter, you win no matter what so azgeda has a commander"
"you win however you must. if i had the blood lexas spirit would chose me. so i need you to choose it"
"i will win azgona, for you. for azgeda. and i will kill everyone from skaikru for what they did to our queen"
"you will not touch them without my say. we've discussed this ontari. you'll be the commander but i'll be in charge"
she nods her head
"(go on and pack. you and the king leave soon)"
she left and roan turned to me
"you're not coming?"
"not yet"
"our people will want you at the conclave"
"there won't be a conclave"
"what do you mean"
"she knows the plan nia and i had made, but i wont be there to see her do it"
"you're going to make her cheat?"
"i'm letting her win"
"then why do you not want to see her win?"
"lexas dying wish was for me to change my ways. i'm not ready to let her down yet"
"i understand, i'll go pack"
i nod my head and he leaves the room

24 hours had barely passed before warriors rushed to me letting me know i was needed in polis. i could barely mourn lexa before having to return to where she was killed, by titus. i guess i was the fool for trying to mourn before the war is over. not that i thought there was a war- i guess i was wrong.
"(azgona!)"
"(our queen)"
everyone screamed, cheered, and bowed as i was rode through polis
"(king roan and heda are waiting for you in the commanders chambers)"
i nod and walk off
"i can't leave you two alone for one day?"
"it's not our fault"
ontari defends
"what happened"
"titus gave the flame to clarke and then killed himself"
"(that coward)"
"ontari had her ascension announced"
"with no flame?"
"no one knows that, we must go on. burn the b!tch who killed your mother. and find wanheda. that's an order"
i pull a knife out to her throat and push her against the wall, she tries to push back but i have way more strength
"oh you know you don't give the orders or have half my strength to fight back. talk about lexa again and i will kill you. you're commander because i am letting you be! (i'm tired of seeing your face, go now)"
"(yes azgona)"
she bows and leaves the room
"what are we going to do?"
"two trackers are better than one"
"and we're supposed to leave ontari here alone"
"i made a promise to not harm clarke, so i will not let her be harmed. you go with me or stay here too worry about that child. once i get back this place will fall under my rule"
"i'd rather go with you than stay here and deal with her"
"she can't do much harm locked up in her room, right?"
