The air was filled with anticipation as the sun dipped below the horizon, signaling the beginning of a traditional Indian wedding.

The first ritual, the Roka ceremony, unfolded with the exchange of sweets and the formal commitment between his and my families.

Despite the possibility of skipping various traditional ceremonies, both grandmothers were insistent on a traditional wedding with no omissions.

As the days progressed, the Mehendi ceremony brought a burst of color to the festivities. My hands and feet adorned with intricate henna designs told stories of love and joy.

Meanwhile, the Sangeet night resonated with laughter and music as friends and family showcased their dance moves, celebrating the union.

The celebration echoed with lively energy, Vedika and the others immersed in dance and joy. Ayaan, though often engrossed in his phone, but I could feel his gaze lingering on me.

Meanwhile, our mothers engaged in conversation. A watchful eye from Ayaan's dadi and bua softened when approached by others. My dadi, beaming with pride, occasionally joined the dance, and the grandfathers from both sides bonded seamlessly, weaving connections amidst the vibrant festivities.

Amidst the lively scene, my brother and his friends added an extra layer of sparkle to the celebration, joining in the dance with Vedika, her friend and the rest.

Vedika's excitement was transferable as she pulled me onto the dance floor, and I surrendered to the music, dancing with all my heart. While I tried to ignore the eyes of others, Ayaan's gaze was a constant presence, making me self-conscious in the most delightful way.

As the guests departed, leaving only our families in the room, I thought the evening had unfolded perfectly. However, dadi uttered something that made me second-guess my decision to dance earlier.

"Vihanaa, you shouldn't have danced Infront of everybody. You're marrying into Sharma, very reputable, have pride and names. You're marrying in our family to maintain the names not to destroy it."

It hurt me. I was just trying to enjoy my marri- arrange marriage but i guess i shouldn't have.

"I'm sorry. I will keep that on mind." Not to make big of a scene I didn't say much. My mouth doesn't seem to open whenever it's supposed to reply to the elders.

Mom shot me a look which told me I messed up which I obviously didn't. I just danced it isn't a big deal.

It is. My inner self told me.

"Why dancing will destroy our reputation, dadi?" Ayaan said who just came to the room after attending a call.

His dadi didn't replied to his question but sensing his impending words which could be rude, I intervened him before he could speak.
