A year ago today. A. Year. Ago. How did that happen? It feels like only yesterday.

Do you know what's weird? It's that a year ago on this day Elaine said "Maisie please just five more minutes!" It's what she said every day I told her to get up for school. She wasn't a morning person.

Twelve hours later she was reported missing, twenty four hours later the Guards were involved.

Nobody knew anything. Nobody saw anything. She just disappeared walking home from school. On the one day I stayed back for a basketball match. The one day!

I tried to get out of bed. I knew I was going to face an another awful day of sympathetic looks and questions from nosey old ladies on how my parents were. Even my friends weren't the same anymore. They treated me differently. It was like anything they said was going to make me cry! I missed the way things used to be. The happy go lucky lifestyle at home with Elaine and my parents. It's feels like when Elaine disappeared she took my life and happiness with her.

I threw on my uniform and brushed my unruly hair into a braid. Looks didn't bother me anymore. After fixing my uniform, so that it looked ironed, I went in to check on my parents.Mam was fast asleep and Dad was gone! He spends most of his time walking on the beach (her favourite place). The two of them in the midst of grief drifted apart and have nothing in common anymore! The once loved up couple stuck in their own thoughts and trying to get over the aching pain.

After grabbing a banana, I left for school, taking a short cut across the fields.
