F O U R winter formals & last goodbye
EMERSON ARRIVED AT the winter formal, she was wearing a royal blue dress that was silk. complimenting her tan skin and brown hair
finding her friends sitting at a table, as she headed over sitting down. smiling as eveyrone greeted the younger girl
"like my mom always talk about how high school was like this big, monumental part of her life but i cannot imagine being forty and looking back at this, like, wow" cassie spoke
"yeah, but that's because most people peak in high school" maddy spoke "i definitely haven't peaked, so..." kat spoke
"i feel like i'm not even a person yet" lexi said "yeah i'm definitely at like twenty-five percent peakness" cassie said "i feel like i'm at a hundred but i can definitely get to one-fifty" jules said
"well, we are only juniors we have another year to reach our peak" em spoke as everyone agreed and thought about it
"honestly, i never thought i'd make it this far" rue said "what do you mean?" cassie asked the curly head girl
"i don't know, i just always had, like this overwhelming anxiety that something bad would happen." rue said as everyone looked at her
"in all fairness, last summer, there were like, three weeks were i thought you were dead." maddy said as em nodded agreeing
"okay but she's been sober for like three months." jules said grabbing rues hand, emerson furrowed her eyebrows
"weren't you in rehab, like, six months ago?" she asked as everyone looked around "uh, yeah" rue said chuckling
"maybe people are nostalgic about high school, cause it's like the last time in their life that they get to dream" cassie said as em furrowed her eyebrows
before jules phone buzzed on the table and she looked down at it, cassie speaking up once again
"after this is just bad jobs, and bills and bad husbands. maybe i'm generalizing but.. i don't know. do you guys get what i mean?" she said as she looked at her friends
"a little bit" em spoke as cass smiled at the girl, "i don't know. i kind of feel the opposite" jules said as eveyrone looked at her
"i feel like high schools super fucking suffocating" jules said "really?" cassie spoke "yeah"
as jules phone buzzed again, she excused herself from the table, before nate walked in with another girl
"yikes" em mumbled as she watched them walk past. everyone giving them disgusting looks
"first of all, ew. second of all, ew." maddy spoke as everyone gave weird looks. as nate and the girl danced in the middle. nate and maddy had eye contact
"maddy don't" cassie spoke "maddy don't do it" "fuck this" she said before getting up and asking a random guy to dance
but as they did that, her friends talked "i guarantee you maddy and nate are gonna get married. and probably like divorced three times and in some strange way" kat spoke
"anyways, emerson did you make a move on ashtray yet?" cassie asked as eveyrone turned to her "you like ashtray?" lexi asked
"no, i hate him. he's a bitch" em spoke as csssie furrowed her eyebrows "didn't you call him attractive at the carnival?" she asked
"i mean yeah, but we got into an argument on halloween" em spoke as everyone turned to her
"about what?" bb asked "telling me i was trying to get his attention and basically told me to stay out of his life and if i don't i'll regret it" she said confused
"what a bitch" kat said "yikes" bb said as em frowned before they all got up and danced
before her brother texted her saying they had to go somewhere together and she needs to get home and dressed quickly
she said goodbye to her friends before she went home and changed into pajama pants and a hoodie, before getting into her brothers car
"where are we going?" she asked nervously before he spoke "fezcos, mouse needs me" he spoke as she got nervous
they pulled into his driveway, emerson standing farther back into a door way while they did their deal
she heard arguing as she got more nervous, she didn't like mouse and things he could do is was dangerous, so she walked over to get closer to her brother
but as mouse faced custer, jayden and fezco, and emerson. ashtray came out running with a hammer.
hitting mouse in the head, custer in the nose and then accidently smacking jayden in the head. emerson gasped as fezco spoke "ash!"
emerson had her hands covering her mouth as fezco turned to look at her "what the fuck" she spoke quietly as she backed up
bumping into the wall as she had tears in her eyes, grabbing her phone from her pocket "what the fuck?! you killed them!!?" custer yelled holding his nose in a panic
emerson walking a little closer to her brother, noticing he isn't breathing as she looked at ashtray "you're a murderer" she whispered
"emerson!" "emerson don't call the cops" the two people in the room spoke "you killed my fucking brother!" she yelled before she ran out of the house
running down the street as she had tears rolling down her eyes. as she kept running until she got home
and after this chaotic night, she didn't go to any parties, ignored ashtray and fezco. and even ignored her friends trying to get her out of the house
she didn't tell her friends he died, more of a he went on vacation and now won't answer. so she's upset about it since they were close
as she told the cops he was on vacation when he was reported for suspicious activity for no response on messages
but no one knows if she'll snitch on ashtray and fezco. or will she take the blame? who knows, she still couldn't believe it
her parents didn't have a clue as they weren't ever home. she decided to keep quiet until she went to the police station.
