Y/n's Pov :

I got a text from my best friend, and roommate- Alex Newhook- that when he gets home we have to talk. This made me super nervous. He never says anything like this unless it's something big or important. Which always leaves on of us- or both of us- rying. And I just have this gut wrenching feeling that we' ll both be crying this time.

I nervously sat on the couch, reading my book while trying to weaken my nerves. I just couldn't calm them down- I was too nervous to not be thinking about my nerves. I put my bookmark into my book, and put it onto the coffee table. I groaned and slouched onto the couch. I had so many thoughts running through my mind when the front door of our apartment opened. I sat up on the couch, and Alex made his way over and sat down next o me.

He sighed and gently grabbed my hand, holding it lightly."So.. you saw my message. So I have something to tell you.. and it's nothing I'm happy about I'm no where near happy about what happened."

"Okay.." I said nervously, biting my lower lip.

"So, basically.." He sighed, and then looked up at my eyes. "I got traded. And it's not close to Denver."

I was stunned. My best friend is leaving me.. and likely not coming back.

"Wait, what..? You're leaving..? Where..?" I asked, my voice breaking.

He bit his lower lip. "Montréal."

The feeling sank in. He would be over 1,800 miles away. What am I going to do?

"I'm so sorry, Y/n. If I could change it I would. I don't want to leave. But I have to." He sighed.

"I know." I said, feeling the tears form in my eyes.

He gently pulled me closer to him. I put my head in his chest and I started to cry. He rubbed my back and I felt his chest rising and falling shakily. He put his chin on my head, and gently played with my hair. He just kept lightly touching my back and my head.

"I am so sorry, Y/n. It was never my idea to be traded there." He whispered.

I sniffled and then looked into his eyes. "I knowAlex. And it's not your fault. You're just doing what you have to do for work, and I understand that."

"That's one of the reasons why you're my best friend, Y/n. You never get mad at me." Alex said.

I gave him a small small smile. But in actuality, I was hurt and upset. I know it's not something he can control, but I'm having my best friend taken away from me, and it sucks.

"Well, I can't be mad at you, Alex. You're just.. you." I said.

He chuckled slightly. "And you're just you, Y/n. the absolutely perfect version of you."

"Maybe I can visit you in Montréal?" I mentioned.

"Yeah, there's a possibility that you could." He responded.

"And if your team allows it," I paused. When you come to Colorado for a game, maybe you can stay with me."

"I doubt they'd allow it, but I hope they do." He sighed.

"Yeah.." I frowned.

"Y/n?" He said.

I looked into his eyes "What's up Alex?"

"I mean, just because you'll still be in Denver, and I'll be in Montréal, doesn't mean we can't talk. We can always text and face-time daily. You know that, right?"

I thought about it. "Oh yea.. we can."

He smiled. "Keep your head up, okay? If you need anything from me just text me. I can't guarantee I'll answer right away.. but I will answer you. And I know you and Bowen are close too, so if you need something from someone close by I'm sure he'll be happy to help you out"

"Okay.." I wiped my eyes. "I'm going to miss you, Alex."

"I'm going to miss you too, but hey," Alex said. "I don't leave until next Friday. Let's make the most of the rest of our time together."

"Really? You still have some time left here in Denver?" I asked.

He nodded with a smile. "I still have time left in Denver."

"I'm.. I am happy about this. We still have time left to do things together."

- About A Week Later -

I was standing in the airport, and Alex had his suitcase. He was about to go through security, and I was biting my lower lip. The feeling was now fully sining in. My best friend would be over 1,800 miles away, I wouldn't see him for months, or even years, or.. or ever again..

Another feeling sank in as I saw him almost to the front of the line. I'm in love with my best friend.

"Alex!" I shouted slightly.

He turned around, and he walked out of the security line. He walked over to me, and his face was fully of concern.

"Y/n? Is everything okay?" He looked down to me, our eyes meeting.

I cupped his cheeks, and leaned in, kissing him gently. He was shocked at first, but then he kissed me back. His right hand rested on my cheek, and his left hand rested on my hip. The kiss lasted a couple of seconds, and then he pulled away. He looked at me, his eyes full of love and compassion. He tucked a strand of hair behind my ear, and then he kissed me again.

After he pulled away, he said, "I love you, Y/n. Please don't forget that. I'll come visit in Colorado during the of season. Or you could visit me. Whatever works better."

I nodded and hugged him tightly. "I love you too, Alex. I love you so much."

"I really have to go now." He kissed my head.

"I know." I sighed.

"I'll text you when I land" He kissed my nose.

I nodded. "Okay, please do."

He kissed my lips quickly. "Goodbye, Y/n. I love you."

"Bye Alex." I sniffled. "I love you too."
