"why did i have to park like a block away?" i asked, looking around the street.

it was late, almost nine o'clock. it was dark, the only light coming from the streetlights.

"i don't know, that's just what she told me." madi said from the back seat, looking at her phone.

she looks behind her, out the back window.

i follow her gaze and see a dark figure approaching the van.

"what the..." i mumbled.

"oh! i think that's her!"

i watched as she came up to car.

the dim streetlight illuminated her and her features.

she had on a white blouse and a black skirt.

half of her hair was tied up and held in place with a large black bow.

she looked beautiful.

she came up to the back window and tapped on it.

i unlocked the door and she climbed inside and gave madi a hug, mumbling a quiet 'hi'.

"hey, matt." she spoke and looked at me.

"hey." i gave a quick smile and faced the front.

i took a deep breath.

"you guys ready?"

"yes!" they both said, excitedly.

i nodded and put the van in drive.

i pulled into the parking lot and found a spot.

once i turned the car off, i looked through the rear view mirror.

both of the girls had huge smiles on their faces. i could feel their excitement.

"ok, have fun, don't do anything stupid. i'll be here to pick you guys up in about two hours. text me or call me if anything changes." i told them.

"we will! thank you so much, matt." madi beamed.

"of course. have fun." i repeated, smiling back.

they got out of the car and ara turned to give me a smile and a wave.

i reciprocated it as i watched them watch to the front, getting in line.

she seemed so happy.

i walked through her bedroom door, holding a bouquet of dark purple petunias.

i knew dark purple was her favorite color.

as soon as i saw the flowers, i knew they would be perfect.

"hi, matt." ara smiled at me and caught sight of the flowers.

she gasped and walked over.

"hi." i said, softly.

"they're beautiful..." she whispered as i handed the bouquet to her.

"thank you!" she gushed, wrapping her arms around my neck and hugging me.

"of course, love." i laughed.

she pulled back, the bright smile still on her face.

"stay here. i'm gonna go find a vase to put these in. i'll be back." she walked past me and out her door.

i sighed and shook my head.

i backed out of the space and start driving home.
