Chapter Five

My eyes fly open the next morning and I’m up off the couch rushing up the stairs before I even have a chance to really wake up. When I get to my room I find that I’m the only one there. My bed is empty, Bradbury is gone, and my bed is haphazardly made. I lean against my doorframe and try to tell the disappointment shifting through my veins like lead it’s being unreasonable. I shouldn’t have expected things to be any different. I shouldn’t have expected him to stay.

I shouldn’t be disappointed that he’s gone.

Gone like a dream.
