Buckskin fringe and raven hair
Beads and quills sewn on with care
Rites of power and spirits move
Shows a path that time will prove
Stolen from a creek side bath
By a warrior fleeing wrath
Bird Wings beats against his leg
First night tethered to a peg
Captive weeks no hint of harm
Gentled foals with his strong arm
Fractious colts, no angry look
Softly offered hand she took
Rough hands bruised her skin and soul
"til buckskined knight, his mate he stole
Gentle hands and gentle voice
Offered her, her first real choice
Back to them or be my wife
Protected, loved for all my life
Wed and bed and family grows
Feathered cape o'er shoulder throws
Vision quest and kiva sweat
Totem animals well met
Spirit road across the sky
Bird Wing helps my spirit fly
Home beyond the Milky Way
Meet we there again someday
Buckskin fringe and raven hair
Define the frame of my love there
Back before the modern world
Across the age this dream was hurled
