Long ago, in the valley of Mexico, there existed a tribe known as the Mexica. They were a small and humble people, wandering from place to place in search of a new home.
One day, the Mexica received a sign from their gods. They were told to settle on a swampy island in the middle of a lake, and that there they would find the city of their destiny. The Mexica, led by their chief, Tenoch, followed the sign and settled on the island. They named their new home Tenochtitlan, which means "the place of the prickly pear cactus."
The Mexica were skilled farmers, engineers, and warriors, and they quickly transformed the swampy island into a thriving city. They built canals and causeways to connect the island to the mainland, and they constructed grand temples and palaces to honor their gods.
As their city grew, so did the Mexica's power. They formed alliances with neighboring tribes and gained control over the surrounding territories. They changed their name to the Aztecs, and their empire, known as the Triple Alliance, became one of the most powerful in the region.
