Alys Hightower went about her life knowing that her sister hated her. From the moment she could form coherent thoughts, she recalled her sister spitting venom and abandoning her with any of the staff that would care for the young girl. She didn't understand when she was younger, but as the years went on Alys came to the conclusion that her sister had been dealt a terrible hand and she really, truly, could not blame Alicent for her hatred. If they were to switch fates, she would be bitter too.
The girl knew it didn't help that she seemed to go against any advice or commands given to her, but when it came to the Velaryon family, who her older sister talked low of and wished for Alys and their brother to stay away from, the girl just couldn't find herself to do it. Not when princess Rheanerya and her sons treated her so much kinder then her own flesh and blood. Aside from her brother Gwayne, and at times Aemond, the Velaryons were the only ones that could bring a smile to the girls face. Especially Jacaerys Velaryon, who her sister willed Alys away from, but no matter the lectures the girl would endure, or the glares she'd receive from her nephews, she could never stay away from him. Not for long. Not when the boy could make Alys laugh until it hurt, and make her feel things she didn't know were possible.
But after a stolen dragon led to her favorite nephew losing an eye, and her brother sustaining such a bad concussion that his memory would never be the same, Alys Hightowers once burning love and adoration for Jacaerys Verlaryon turned into bad blood, and she didn't ever, ever, want to see him again.

notes! i will be switching some timelines and ages of some characters to help fit my plot better. i know gwayne would be much older, and that alicents mother died way sooner, but i wanted my oc to be a hightower and i'll be making adjustments to let that happen a little smoother. also if i get any names, places, or family tree things incorrect i apologize! i'm doing as much research as i can and will be reading the book soon.
when alys was born, gwayne is 3, alicent is 20 and aegon is 2. otto wasn't removed as kings hand until after alys is born. anything else i change will be explained later.
