It was the sun shining through your dimly lit room which first woke you. However, it was the absence of Nick which prompted you to actually get out of bed. Legs intertwined in the bedsheets and the faint smell of pancakes coming from below, you couldn't help but smile at the thought of last night. In your half-cut stupor you and Nick agreed that Sunday mornings were meant for making pancakes, smoking cigarettes, and reading Publik Occurrences to see what Piper's getting herself into now. You took all of this as being somewhat of a joke, but Nick being up and about already told you he took your words earnest.

Slipping into your usual spot at the kitchen table you couldn't help but admire the man that stood before you. "Coffee?" Like he even had to ask. "Yes, please" you muttered through a smile. A quick glance at you and Nick mockingly inquired "Why do you look so suspicious this morning?" You couldn't possibly tell him what you were thinking about. Nick never accepted your praise as open heartedly as you'd like. He had a tendency to either ignore your comments or shrug them off with a simple "Thanks, kid". Ignoring his initial question you lit a cigarette, and he went to work on making his own cup of coffee. You watched him move around the kitchen with an odd grace. Nick would come across as anything but graceful or elegant to anyone else, but to you he was entirely captivating. He reached for milk from the fridge and you couldn't help but admire all of the little gears, springs and sprockets that allowed his arm to operate in such a smooth way. Robotic and made up of parts mostly foreign to you—he was intricate and aged. To you however, more than anything else, he was beautiful.
