It only seems like yesterday
Since we were little girls
With brown and yellow uniforms
While ribbons dressed our curls
Down the seaside avenue
We'd walk to school together
Each day was like eternity
And life stretched on forever
From little girls to teenagers
We'd always keep in touch
Fashion faux pas, silly hair styles
Boyfriends and the such
Before we both got married
Mad adventures made us laugh
Our trip to Scotland, folks we met
Until you moved to bath
Then came along our children
Little people we had made
We'd watch them dance in sunshine
While we stood inside the shade
All friendships can be precious
Or just melt in time like snow
But priceless is the friendship
When, from little girls, you grow
Our lives have weaved a story
Where we both have played a part
Me in yours and yours in mine
Aged seven, was the start
You're such a loyal and beautiful
Unique and treasured friend
That no amount of words I write
Could hold the love I send

PoetryThis poem is to celebrate the birthday of my oldest friend. We met at school when we were seven. Friendships come in various ways and bring various pleasure to us all. But those we make during the first few years of our lives, remain very special.
