Song of the Deep: This book is now 80% written, 60% posted, and buffered until mid-August. Suffice to say, the second half of April was productive! I'm now semi-pausing my writing on this book for the first half of May, which is to say I'll pretend to write less while using it as a break from the other projects I'm working on 😂 (Have you met me? Look, I'm bad at taking breaks. Don't judge)

Can You Cook a Dragon (Flash Fiction Collection): On pause until June.

Thistle in the Sky: This book is complete offline! And with another editing project under my belt now + no ONC deadline to worry about, I've decided to keep posting weekly until the end of May. We are down to the last four chapters ✨

As the Crow Falls: IT'S EDITING TIME! My self-imposed timeline was a success, and I have let this project marinate all the way until May. I now have a self-imposed deadline of three weeks to get the whole thing edited—that's structural and line edits on what is currently a 105k-word manuscript in need of a new opening, at least two new chapters, and a whole lot of polishing. Am I excited? You bet.

I also still need a cover. It's fine. Everything's fine.

Rocks Can Dance: Still paused, and will remain so for at least the rest of the month. Another fun(?) thing about having multiple works-in-progress is that picking one up after a break feels a lot like trying to restart a geriatric lawn mower in need of engine oil and a reminder of what its job is. This book is a particular offender. Besides the fact that it's kinda chaotic and I regularly drop it for multi-month breaks, it's at 70k and not even halfway done, which means I need to spend a day or two rereading any time I bring it out of stasis for another writing spree. Do I mind? Not really—it's super fun to reread! But it also means this is not a project I can pick up at random like Song of the Deep, which is exceptionally good at such chaos.

Super Secret Mystery Project™ That Will Remain A Mystery Until Launch: Speaking of books I can pick up at random. This one needs a bit of plot work before I keep chipping away at it, but I'll probably do that this month!

Hattu Empire Series (aka Desert Epic): Hooboy, this one's about to go bananas again. I've been doing a LOT of passive planning and general research for it throughout the winter and spring, and I'm getting to a point where it's becoming hard to hold all my ideas in my head again. Expecting a few tens of thousands of words of worldbuilding here this month!

🎶  IT'S TIME TO SEE WHAT I CAN DO 🎶

🎶  TO TEST THE LIMITS AND BREAK THROUGH 🎶

🎶  NO RIGHT NO WRONG NO RULES FOR ME 🎶

🎶  I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE 🎶

Okay, there are some rules. I'm out of school, but I'm officially a full-time author for the summer, which means I'd better earn my keep. Belltower has been through its stint with a professional dev editor (it went great! Apparently I have a better sense of plot than I realized), my spring novella is done, and my plate for May is clear. Friends, we have books to write, books to edit, books to post, and books to scream about chaotically at 3am from hours down a rabbit hole about bronze-making and ancient architecture... writing is fun!

I don't have much else to announce except for that. Spring is here, there is sun, outside no longer feels like a fridge where I live, and the cats have no in any way, shape, or form stopped fighting over my lap because my apartment has no insulation, so it's still bloody cold in here. Come on, summer! I need you.

I also have an exciting new non-book project to run in this book, starting this Wednesday. Stay tuned!

 Stay tuned!
