Mentor Wish List

Do to personal time constraints, I will not be looking at books with word counts over 90,000 words.

Young Adult: I almost exclusively read young adult novels, but not typically the high school romance variety. I prefer young adult aged books mixed with one (or more) of the genres below.

Fantasy: This is my all-time favorite genre. Give me your lost princesses, your chosen ones, your secret magicians. I love well-developed high fantasy, but also have a soft spot for the occasional urban fantasy. If your book has magic in it, I'm usually sold.

Science Fiction: While space opera isn't my thing, I do love a soft science fiction novel, one usually grounded in the real world or in the future (think Renegades by Marissa Meyer).

Mystery: Mystery was my first love (I'm pretty sure I read every single Nancy Drew book in first grade). I love a classic whodunit, with twists and turns that keep you guessing until the very end.

A note on the genres: I love books that cross genres, fantasy with murder mysteries, science fiction with action or adventure. And I love books with diversity. While I do not read straight romance, I have apparently reached a phase of life where I only read books if they include some sort of romance in them (it doesn't need to be the main plot). However, I will not read anything explicit or mature, so things that fall into the young adult genre are more typically my speed. Implied sex scenes are fine, but as soon as things start getting detailed, I stop reading. I also won't read anything overtly gory or in the horror genre. I don't do fanfiction.

I prefer reading books with a first-person point of view, but I'm not opposed to third-person, especially if it's written so I feel like I'm inside the protagonist's head. I don't really like third-person omniscient.

In summary, if you have a diverse young adult scifi, fantasy, or mystery novel with a sprinkle of clean romance, I'm your girl. I'm willing to go outside the young adult category, but only if it's clean.
