Opening my eyes, I didn't realize I fell asleep while packing. I just laid in my bed last night for a split second; I didn't think I was that tired.

Lifting myself out of my bed, I drug my sleepy self to my recently filled closet. It was jam packed now; the opposite of what it looked like yesterday. I quickly snatched a blue tee and a pair of my favorite jeans, and ditched my pjs for them. I threw the heap of sleep wear in my dirty clothes hamper and checked the mirror before I met up with my family for breakfast. A blue eyed dirty blonde haired girl stared back at me. My eyes swept over my clothes as I untangled my hair with a new, clean brush we bought on the drive to Colorado, since my mom misplaced the other one. After I nodded with approval, I left my room and headed for the kitchen. There, I fixed up a plate of pancakes, topped them with syrup, and joined my family. Daniel was picking at a scab as I sat next to him. He looked up at me and gave me his usual disgusted face to greet me. Sticking my tongue out at him, I returned the favor.

"So tell me, Alyssa, how'd you sleep?" My dad asked trying to start up a conversation.

"Fine," I sawed a bite of pancake with my fork.

"That's good to hear. I worried it'd be to warm. We haven't adjusted the thermostat to the perfect temperature quite yet." I didn't care about the thermostat. I gave him a look that said "really, dad, really".

After scarfing down three pancakes, I left to go explore the premises. Might as well make the best of this move. I shoved my Converse on my feet and off I went to go exploring.

With the destination to go to the barn in mind, I skipped to the red building. I slid the wooden door open and the first thing I spotted was the loft and four stables. There was also a back room with what looked like horse gear inside. I climbed to the summit of the loft. Under my feet, the boards creaked and the smell of fresh hay wafted through my nose. The room lit up from the sunlight peeking in from the open window just above the entrance. This would be a cool secret hang out. With a little sweeping and color, it would be a luxury to take a long book or magazine up here and plop on a bean bag to get away from my problems. The thought made the corners of my mouth rise.

In the corner of my eye, I saw something glisten calling me over. I knelt down to pick it up. My fingers swept across a shiny new horse shoe. This would be cool to hang on my door, I thought as tucked it into my jean pocket. There was nothing else to see up there, so I climbed down the ladder and headed towards the back room. Sure enough, horse tack was neatly hung on hooks and put into slots on a bag. A hook looking thing hung out of the bag's pocket. A couple of brushes shared a pocket, and a felt blanket was folded and shoved in the bottom of the bag. I stepped away from the back and backed into a stool. As I turned around, I realized it was not a stool; not even close. A saddle perched on a decorated fancy wrack practically glowed. I gasped at the beauty of the saddle. The leather had swirls and flowers embroidered into it. The saddle horn was a little buffed up, but it had a sew in the top that was super fancy like.

After gawking at the saddle, I walked about of the room. I peeked into the horse stalls as I walked by in my way out. I loved the barn so much. Why would someone leave perfectly good equipment in there though?

Before I turned the corner, someone ran into me. He fell on his rear with an "umph". Daniel looked up at me.

"Watch it, Mrs.Pigsty." He snickered.

"You watch it, Fish Breathe!" I snapped back. Mrs.Pigsty? Really, he couldn't come up with something better than that? I nearly laughed.

"What are you doing here?" He picked himself up and sanded his hands together.
