Salt Lake City, Utah.A nice little place with beautiful, bountiful mountains surrounding the area. Founded by Brigham Young in 1847, he led early Mormon pioneer settlers who were escaping the persecution they faced in the east.
But the real place where our story begins is at East High School.
It was near the end of the school year. Everyone was still in a commemorative mood, following the school's spring musical of Beauty and the Beast – especially the school's Drama teacher and director of the production, Miss Jenn.
------------------
Miss Jenn: "I could not be more proud of my students after the spring show! They stepped up to the occasion, as they've done before. Not to mention how they made the brave decision of forfeiting their place in the Menkies – that is, the Alan Menken Awards. Even though they chose not to find out who the winner was in the end, I couldn't help but to take a peek...and the good news is that North High didn't win."
-------------------
A week before the official last day of school, Ezekiel Bluth – who was filling in for Mister Gutierrez as principal while he was on sick leave – called Miss Jenn to the office to have a word with her. He did it on her prep period, so as not to disrupt any of her classes. Miss Jenn was rightfully worried about the meeting; she did start off the school year on a grim note, when it was discovered that she lied about her teaching experiences and credentials during the application process – both of which had been ultimately dismissed by the board.
