I can't imagine the strength it would take to leave your newborn - alone - even knowing that it was the only way to to ensure its safety. I've been fascinated by the mother/dragonet bonds that intertwine throughout the novels, (Clay's mother's rejection was especially painful) and when I read Moonwatcher's hatching I knew this was one moment I wanted to capture in music. I've used 2 images with Darkstalker which, while not entirely apropos in this lullaby, could arguably be used to foreshadow Moonwatcher's future relationship. They were beautiful images and I wanted to include them in the video. Thanks to all the amazing artists who graciously gave me permission to include their works; I can't make these videos without all the beautiful artwork! Winter's music follows the general arc of his emotional development. I've written a processional fanfare for his obnoxiously arrogant arrival at Jade Mountain Academy. In his mind, everyone and everything is beneath him. But when Moonwatcher helps him with his scavenger, he's surprised by his newly-conflicted emotions. NightWings and IceWings have been enemies for eons, but somehow Moonwatcher is different . . . But Winter has to get down to business back in the Ice Kingdom with Hailstorm, and his perspective on things continue to change as unexpected situations and unfamiliar emotions assail him.
