It's not usual for me to end a story here on Wattpad without an author's note, and I'll start this one with an apology for all those who read A Feast of Souls as it was updated live - for those of you who patiently waited for weekly updates:
Last week, I posted the final chapter, The Whispering Girl, stating that there was to be no epilogue after all and ending the story far more abruptly than I ever intended. Truth be told, this hasn't been an easy story to write. I've always believed in it, but that doesn't mean I ever found it easy. There were times when I wasn't sure I even wanted to write it, and so, by the end, there was an overwhelming sense to just get it over with.
Cards on the table, I lost a lot of readers with this one. I lost readers I never thought I'd lose. But, I always knew changing style AND changing genre was going to be hugely risky and it was. Posting on Wattpad can be a gamble sometimes. You win some, you lose some, right? But, what I did discover while writing this, was that not only did I gather new readers along the way, but I also learned to really appreciate those who did come back week after week. I won't name you all here, because I'll be petrified to miss names off the list, but I hope you know that I'm talking about you and that those readers who stuck with the story were the ones who encouraged me to keep going, no matter how difficult it was to write it.
So, to all of you, I apologise... you deserved a better ending. You deserved Lily and Daniel and the best of their relationship and so, I changed my mind and wrote the epilogue after all. I hope it makes up for leaving you all hanging. I hope you think it's the ending that Lily and Daniel deserved.
And, to all of you who may discover A Feast of Souls at a later date, I thank you too. Thank you for giving this story your time. Whether you are a vocal reader or a silent one, I appreciate every bit of support, because without readers, a writer is nothing.
