Elena Ramirez has been best friends with Cory Matthews and Shawn Hunter her whole life, ever since the three met on the playground in kindergarten, after Cory and Shawn saw her getting picked on for playing by herself in the sandbox and invited her to play with them instead.

The three were currently sitting in their school Jefferson elementary's cafeteria with another kid, Nicholas Bornihay. All of Natalia's friends were boys but she didn't mind anymore

Elena was flipping through a book at the table before Shawn looked up at her

"Hey, Lena. Did you do the english homework?" Shawn asked, with a charming smile, wanting to copy her homework.

"Didn't do it again?" Elena asked rolling her eyes

"Nope" Shawn smiled

"Why not?" Elena asked

"Umm....... Boy stuff?" Shawn said, in a questioning tone

Elena stared at him for a minute before pursing her lips "Mh-hm"

"Please, I'll be your best friend " Shawn said

"You already are dummy." Elena  said

"Then i'll be your best best best best friend" Shawn said

"Fine." Elena threw her m notebook at him "As long as it'll shut you up, anything."

"Thanks Dear." Shawn said, as Elena shook her head.

Cory came back from the vending machine, after getting caught by Mr Feeny.

"He's a teacher man, keep raggin' on him he'll make your whole sixth grade year miserable " Shawn told him

"I'm going to be miserable anyways, this way i'm bringing him down with me." Cory said

Elena saw Mr Feeny talking to some new teacher she's never seen before "Hey, who's that?"

Nicholas, Shawn's and Cory's attention all went to her and they saw who she was talking about.

"I think she's new" Nicholas said

"She must be new, she's talking to Feeny" Shawn scoffed

"Okay, so how late did you sleep last night?" Nicholas asked Cory

"Monologue"

"Monologue first guest" Elena  said

"Monologue first guest, bad sketch" Shawn added

"Monologue first guest, bad sketch... funny zoo animal "

"Monologue first guest bad sketch funny zoo animal..... Steve Lawrence!" Nicholas exclaimed

Cory and Shawn gasped, their eyes lighting up

"Whoa! Steve Lawrence?!"

Nicholas nodded proudly, just as the bell rang.

"And there's the bell." Shawn said

"Four hours til lunch" Cory said

Elena packed up her stuff, and saw that Shawn still had her notebook "Hunter!"

"She's dead Mr Bornihay. Pick up the knife and kill yourself." Md Feeny said. He was teaching the class Romeo and Juliet, Nicholas and another kid Vanessa were reanacting the play.

"Come on Mr. Feeny,  you and i both know she's not really dead. May i please stab her a couple times just to make sure?"

Elena wasn't really paying attention to the front of the room because she heard Shawn whispering something to Cory behind her

"What's the score?" Shawn asked Cory, who was listening to a baseball game instead

"Bottom of the third. Two out, dykstra's on second, Kruk's on first. 3 and 2 to Dalton." Cory said quietly enough that he thought he wasn't going to get caught, but he did.

"What's this Mr. Matthews?" Mr Feeny asked holding up the headphones

Cory cupped his hand over his ear "Huh? What'd you say Mr. Feeny? You took my hearing aid."

Mr. Feeny put the radio into his ear "Smoltz delivers, Dalton swings. Oh, he got a piece of that one. It's a long drive, deep to Otis Nixon back, back to the warning track, climbs up the wall and......" He shut the radio off

"Mr. Matthews, Romeo and Juliet is Shakespeare's ultimate testament of love between a man and a woman" Mr . Feeny started explaining before his attention was brought back to Nicholas and Vanessa in the front again.

"Mr Matthews, you do not listen to the ballgame in the middle of my class" Mr. Feeny continued

Cory stood up "Mr. Feeny, Who cares about some guy who killed himself over some girl?"

Mr. Feeny shook his head at Cory "The tragedy here, Mr. Matthews, is not about a dumb girl or the boy who killed himself because of her. It's about the all-consuming power of love and the inevitability of it's influence on each of their lives."

Cory looked at him confused "Are you aware im only 11 years old?"

"Are you aware that you have detention this afternoon noon?" Mr. Feeny mocked

"No actually, i didn't" Cory said

Elena rolled her eyes and smacked Cory in the head.
"Your an idiot"

The next day at school, the four were eating lunch, but no one even called it that because it was just disgusting.

"Well, mines got fuzz" Shawn said looking up

"Mine's got lips" Cory said

"Mines got Hair" Elena said disgusted, holding up a long strand of hair and then flicking it at Shawn.

Nicholas took a brown plastic bag out of his bag.

"Hey, Bagman. Rough Life being an only child huh?" Shawn asked

"Yeah, rougher life being an orphan. Which is what i am of last night," Cory said

"Really?" Elena asked

"What happened?" Nicholas asked

"I dumped my family and they dumped me. It was mutual, their keeping the house" Cory said

"Well, we're here for you Cory." Shawn said

"Thanks, you two can be my new brothers and Elena my sister" Cory said, putting a hand on his friends shoulders. "Hey, what do you say we go to the game friday night?"

Elena smirked "Don't you have detention on friday?. With Feeny."

"Uh, don't worry about detention, i can handle Feeny. Feeny loves me" Cory said too confidently

"Feeny hates you" Shawn scoffed

"Well, it was one of the two" Cory shrugged, before he went over to Mr. Feeny's table to determine if he really hated cory or not.

The next day, it was another day at lunch. The four watched as Mr. Feeny was talking to that same teacher

"Two days in a row" Nicholas said

"She just doesn't learn" Shawn said

As they watched, Mr. Feeny and the teacher, who Elena learned her name was Evelyn, came over towards the group's table, Mr feeny talking about how he had made some kind of salad for his sister but she never showed up.

"Confused Mr. Matthews?" Mr. Feeny saw Cory's confused look

"Uh-huh" Cory nodded

"As it should be" Mr Feeny walked away
