That Game We Call High School

Chapter Twenty-Two

Remember Me?

*****************************

Hey miss sobriety, do you remember me;

Or how to say my name?

Do you remember when we were friends?

Yeah, all the way back then.

I sat there, not even able to quiver in fear as my sister came at me with her large knife. Soon she was close up to me, her nose about an inch from mine, the knife one millimeter from puncturing the place between my jaw and my neck. She smiled like she was on the worst and best crack of all time, but her eyes were on fire with a mix between hatred and amusement.

Finally, after her seemingly allowing the fear sink deep enough into me, she asked loudly, “Khloe Main. Answer my questions correctly and I wont let you bleed to death right this very second, okay?” I barely nodded, the knife slightly scraping against my sensitive skin. I consumed my hiss of pain within my throat, keeping my hold. “Great,” Her breath reeked of peppermint mixed with her favorite strawberry Jelly Belly’s, and a hint of.. Just plain evil. “Do you love Liam Mathers?”

I swallowed, closing my eyes for a moment. Did I love Liam? I shook my head just barely, opening my eyes. “No.” I answered neutrally. I wasn’t going to say that I liked him or wanted him to be my boyfriend unless she asked me. What she did ask me was a simple yes or no question.

She breathed out as if she was relieved, then went over to Liam, the same closeness that she had to me was now veered towards him. Except, this made me so uncomfortable and jealous I was actually able to squirm in my seat. Did she honestly need to get that close to him? Is she getting closer? Please don’t kiss him again, I wouldn’t be able stand it.

“Liam Mathers,” She began as he scrunched his nose at her breath. I tried my hardest not to chuckle, as he obviously didn’t find her breath too pleasing either. ”Do you love Khloe Main?” He bit his lip; glancing towards me quickly, then back at her.

His next words seemed as if we were in some romance novel or movie, processing through my brain slowly as his mouth moved along with the word, “Yes.” His voice flowed through those words. My heart skipped for a moment as I forgot about everything else around me.

But, everything came back into reality as I saw Jessica smack Liam. It looked hard enough to even hurt Jacob Black in Twilight. No, Twilight isn’t the best reference ever. But seriously, that smack was hard! Liam kept his stare towards her ice cold, though, pretending to not notice the forming red hand mark appearing on his pale skin. Ouch.

Half of me wanted to yell out to him to take it back, that it would only make it harder for him to survive. But, the other half of me wouldn’t want him to take it back, just knowing that simple little fact made me one of the happiest in the world. Plus, I would probably get slapped myself if I were to create an outburst.

The room went dead silent. Jessica and Liam were practically having a stare contest, seeing who would forfeit first. Finally, Jessica stood up, looking over to me with a look that would make me drop dead, come back to life, and drop dead all over again if it were possible. And it would be possible if we were in the movie Flatliners. But we’re not, much to Jessica’s displeasure, I’m sure.
