This novel in progress is my piece for NaNoWriMo 2021. It's my first time getting involved, and I'm so excited to share my story with you all!
As a Filipino immigrant, I often felt disconnected from my roots - feeling too westernized for my family, but too Asian for the country I grew up in. Writing and researching for this piece has made me feel closer to home than ever.

When I was eighteen, my mother and I spent a few weeks at my grandmother's ancestral home in Romblon, Mimaropa. I was immediately greeted with warmth, and a young girl I met toured me around the area. At one point in the tour, she pointed out what she dubbed was the Enchanted Forest. She cautioned me to stay away from it, citing evil elves and mythical creatures that lurked behind and within the trees.
I obliged.
This novel, in a sense, is what I imagine would have happened if I didn't.
